Lenovo Sale Ending Soon...Need Advice

So, the Lenovo Back to School sale is ending soon (tomorrow) and I am still conflicted over whether to buy the x60s which is currently $700 off + free shipping + free 512 ram or wait and see if it might possibly go down more as it comes closer to time for school to start. I need to buy a laptop in the next three or so weeks, but I know that Intel just announced the Core 2 Duo and this will probably cause the price to go down. The question is just how much and how soon. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Read the following article from Information Week: <a href="http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=191600193&subSection=All+Stories%5B/url%5D">http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=191600193&subSection=All+Stories</a></p>

Intel just released the new Meron chips which are quad core. Laptops with these newest processors will be coming out at the end of August or early September. These newest chips will be faster and require slightly less power to run. However, most software programs have yet to fully take advantage of the current core duo processors, let alone the upcoming quad core chips (Core2).

Companies will be clearing our their inventory of duo core laptops as they ramp up their Meron processor replacements. As the saying goes, "When they're gone, they're gone". Given the short time frame, it's unlikely that further price cuts are coming.

Unfortunately, the Meron release is cutting it really close to the beginning of the Fall term. And you'd be paying top dollar. The Core Dual processors were released back in Feb. and now Intel is clearing out it's remaining Core Dual inventory with fire sale pricing. Unless you have some "deep pockets" and can wait for the "latest and greatest", I'd go ahead and buy one now.

The facts of life for any computer purchase:As soon as you buy one (like buying a new car), there's always a newer and faster model the next day...

Have fun.
