This afternoon, during my daily musing about what life would be like as a Notre Dame student, I was wandering, given that its Ash Wednesday, whether the cafeteria serves meat on days of abstinence throughout Lent. I thought in some ways this could be representative of how the University promotes the Catholic values of this most holy season. I can understand if the cafeteria makes no special exceptions given that the entire student population is not Catholic, and I by no means believe it is neccesary in order for one to properly abstain and/or fast. I was just curious. Thank you for your responses.

I am also curious about this. I got to a catholic high school and there is a 15% non-catholic population. They love to get upset about the fish and grilled cheese...but my school holds strong. How could it not?

Meat is not served during Ash Wednesday or Fridays during Lent. Also, on Ash Wednesday there are two masses at the Basilica and then masses in pretty much every dorm. That doesn't tell you much, I know, but I hope it helps some. Here is a link to South Dining Hall's menu so you can see (if you get it in time) what we had today or if it is after midnight what we will have tomorrow (or you could check on Friday, lol).

Thank you very much irish68178, that makes me very happy to hear that.

Found this article on the ND Observer website, seemed kind of relevant to the topic.

It's so good to hear that! I currently go to an Episcopal school and Fridays during Lent leave practicing Catholics (all two of us) with very few menu choices.

Damn, I'm not very happy to hear that.

yup, like irish said rest assured that the dining hall staff is looking out for your soul and insuring that you don't eat meat....that having been said, I prefer lent because the DH comes up with some new combinations/meal entrees and the Fridays can actually be some of the best days to eat...it's as though they don't want the students to get ****ed off so they make those days pretty good.

Now that's interesting. That's the first time i've seen that word get censored by the system...it wasn't even profanity...

Interesting that cc allows "damn" but not "****ed"...
