LEP help please!!!!

Why would you major in Chemistry if you got an F in it?

I just slacked off too much. I understand it but I just have to put in the effort to know how to do the problems.

Tough love, baby.

Sure it was harsh, but your post shows you aren’t being at all realistic about your current situation. The sooner you focus your attention on the problems and challenges right in front of you rather than stuff that is years in the future, the better off you will be (both in the short term AND the long term.)

(FWIW, a long time ago, my freshman year was a complete disaster as well, so I have some perspective on your situation.)

Congratulations, you have joined the majority of students; most struggle at some point in college-one way or the other. You have taken the courses known to be the toughest.you’ve learned that they are difficult for you. So difficult that you have to redirect yourself. It is a shock for most students but it is not the end of the world. You are getting educated in more than just course topics. It’s a life experience teacher. Don’t dispair!

You should order your priorities. I’d think getting your BA/BS degree would be near the top. So consider what you need to do to get your degree. Most students major in things that don’t end up helping them towards a career. At least not in obvious ways. But most people end up with careers. The fact that you did poorly in pre-med courses should prompt you to re-think your career choice. The majority of students who start out pre-med choose other options while in college. Unfortunately aptitude and interest aren’t always aligned. Also, Humanities give out A’s like candy whereas STEM seems to almost punish students for choosing it. I don’t know why humanities and social sciences have such low expectations for their students but they seem to. But in terms of your direction, consider this, would you want to go to a physician who had difficulty passing his or her pre-req’s? There are probably better matches for you.

So the message is to learn from this experience and re-focus efforts on a direction you are likely to succeed with.

I’m at risk of getting kicked out of my major in the biological sciences limited enrollment program as a general bio major. I know the policy is that you must get a 2.0 gpa or you get kicked out and can’t reapply. If I get below a 2.0, will I be able to reapply to the program just another major or will I have to consider a whole other lep program???

I know this might be a very stupid question but my university requires students to have a 2.0 gpa by the time they have 45 credits to stay in their major. There is another rule that says that students have to maintain a cumulative 2.0 gpa to stay in their program so a gpa below 2.0 first semester would not get you kicked out of your major right? Since you would be attaining a gpa of 1.7 not maintaining anything since its your first semester???

I was kicked out of the biology major at my college and can’t reapply to the bio program. I’m a bit conflicted. So I’m considering chemistry which will give me several back up careers in research, labs, etc if I don’t get accepted to med school or a pysch major and maybe minor in bio which will leave with me the med school route. I don’t really want to be a psychologist so what would be some other options as a psych major for a scientific related career of research? What should I do???

The policy for lep is you have to maintain a 2.0 after 45 credits so if you get on academic probation first semester you’re not gonna get kicked out from your major correct?
