Lesbians at Mount Holyoke?

I go to an all-girl high school right now. My school is highly conservative and very stifling. I have recently started to apply to colleges. I am looking for a place where I can get an education in engineering (or 3-2 program) and feel comfortable with my sexuality. I guess my question is how comfortable I would be at Mount Holyoke? Would it be easy for me to find a girlfriend there? How is it in comparison to Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, and Smith on the gayness factor? Alright well thanks.

You will be very comfortable socially and intellectually. You will be able to be yourself, whether you want to be very “out”, or more reserved and discreet. MHC is a very open, accepting, inclusive place. A little less so than Smith (The town of Northampton is known as the best place to live for lesbians.) South Hadley is a bit more conservative, but very friendly.

Mount Holyoke (and the town of South Hadley) is definitely a very accepting community, regardless of sexuality. I’m a current student here at MHC, and I feel that people of all sexualities are on very level ground. To answer your question, you would definitely be able to find a girlfriend here. (To anybody reading this who is worried that you won’t be able to find a boyfriend - there are 5 Colleges here, with over 35,000 students - you can definitely find someone.) Unfortunately, I am not able to compare the other Seven Sister schools on the “gayness factor”, I haven’t really spent a lot of time at those schools.
Hope this helps!

I would agree with the other posters. The only think I should point out is that Smith has its own engineering program, one of the few if any women’s colleges to have one. Good luck.
