Hey! I'm just curious as to what the lesbian student life is at women's colleges and if it's any different from those at co-eds. I am mostly interested in Bryn Mawr and Barnard (as well as NYU and American-- which I heard are also pretty gay ;) ) Just wondering-- this most likely wouldn't be a deciding factor for me, just curious.

Well, Smith is in Northampton, which has been named the most gay-friendly city in the country, and it truly is an open, supportive, very friendly place for everyone. From my experience, lesbians at Women’s colleges are for the most part comfortable in their identity, find great support and friendships with both hetero-sexual women and lesbian women, and are celebrated for their achievements and intellect first and foremost. What’s between the ears was much more important than what’s between the legs!

I’d encourage you to visit campus and maybe arrange an overnight through Admissions to give you a feel of what student life is like. There’s a little something for everyone at Bryn Mawr, and while we are all quite diverse, everyone is very supportive and encouraging of one another.
