My kid is a late bloomer, has fragile confidence, has done well in community college, and is interested in Marine Biology and Textiles & Apparel. Are any of these majors "less-rigorous" or "less-competitive" at UT? Or what are some majors (if any) in the College of Natural Sciences that would be less-rigorous or less-competitive?

The Textiles and Apparel major is quite competitive for admission.
[College of Natural Sciences | Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010 | University of Texas at Austin](http://registrar.utexas.edu/catalogs/ug08-10/ch12/ug08.ch12a.html)

I do not know that Marine and Freshwater Biology (BS) major is unusually competitive for admission. The following chemistry classes are required:

Chemistry 301, 302, and 204.

Chemistry 210C, 310M, and 310N.

A year of organich chemistry will certainly be rigorous. Did you mean less competitive to get into or less competitive to complete?

I was looking for less competitive to complete.

Human Development and Family Sciences or Human Ecology, perhaps? Don’t know much about them, they don’t sound hard, and I didn’t even know UT offered such majors until ten seconds ago.

However, all majors in natural sciences require some amount of chemistry, biology, physics, math, etc, so in that sense, NONE of the majors are “easy”.
