We are struggling to find affordable animation programs. The top schools are out of our reach financially and we probably won’t qualify for financial aid grants, just loans. We would really need to keep our out of pocket under $20-25k. Any suggestions on decent animation programs that would be more affordable? Or anyone know of animation program schools that give really good merit and scholarships?
Where do you live? The University of New Mexico might be an affordable option. They have a concentration in gaming and animation as part of their film program. They’re also a WUE school if you’re in the western states.
If you’re in NY, there are a couple of SUNY’s that have animation and/or game design. Look at Oneonta, Oswego, Fredonia and of course FIT
I just looked into UNM as we are within WUE, and their website says: ** New non-resident freshmen with a 3.0 GPA and a test score of 22 ACT or 1100 SAT who apply for admission for Fall 2020 before March 30 (priority date extended) are eilgible to pay the tuition and fee rate of New Mexico residents. That is awesome, hopefully that will be the case when we are applying for Fall 2021. We are going to look into this school thanks for the suggestion.
THanks for the suggestions!
DD is wanting to do more of the art side of animation. Any animation/illustration programs?
@amamab. In addition to UNM, check out UT-Dallas. It offers good merit money for high stats students, even OOS.
I’m not sure what the scholarship opportunities are for out of state students, but the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee is supposed to have a great film/animation department. Good luck!
The University of Utah is another WUE school with animation available either as a concentration within Film and Media Arts or as a minor in conjunction with Computer Game Design.
Thanks for these suggestions!
Texas A&M has a good animation/visualization program. http://viz.arch.tamu.edu/
Sheridan College in Toronto has a top animation program. Tuition is 28K CAD which is about 21K USD.
