Less Ivy League, More Liberal Arts

I came to this forum in search for stories and experiences of those who went to the smaller lib. arts colleges, like Marlboro and Reed. Unfortunately I’ve found that all of the information and most of the people who post here post for the Ivy League section, and that’s not what im interested in. Are there any forums or databases that have experiences of alumns or current students enrolled in the lib. arts colleges? Or am I just being a brat?

The problem is that probably many more people are applying to places like HPYS (which get as many as 22,000 apps a year) than to places like Marboro and Reed. The HPYS also attract applicants from all over the world, which means that lots of people have info about them. That’s not the same for places like Reed and Marboro, which aren’t well known outside of their region.

Also, the competition for spots at HPYS is insane, so people desperate for tips post here.

If you want info on places like Reed and Marboro, your best bet is to post on some of the more popular forums here such as the Parents Forum (lots of thoughtful parents who’ll go out of their way to help students, including those not applying to HPYS) or to the “college search” and “college admissions” forums. Put the names of the colleges you want to hear about in the subject header. This will attract knowledgeable people to your posts.

It’s usually not that helpful to post on the individual college sections for the less popular liberal arts colleges because not those many people use those forums.

It also probably would be to your advantage to contact admissions and ask them to put you in touch with current students.

Also check for livejournal communities. I don’t know about Marlboro, but Reed has quite a lively community.

thanks for the tips you guys and gals!
