less than 3.0 CSU transfer

Hello, I want to transfer to SJSU from inside of their service area and am wondering if that is possible with a 2.8 The major I want to get into is one of the more unpopular engineering majors, either materials or chemical. I've been hearing that people with 3.0+ get put in the declared category or flatout rejected. What i don't know is if people with sub 3.0s have gotten into either chem or mat. The SJSU website says the minimum is a 2.0 I have that plus the golden four and 80% of the prereqs. I did fine in math and other prereq classes but didn't do so well in a couple GE courses. Will the school take that into consideration? I haven't been able to get any information like this from the school so I'm wondering what you all will think. Also are there any other CSU's that could accept me?

Also i know that sjsu’s average transfer acceptance gpa for 2014 campus wide was 3.13 by some of their own pdf’s that they have up but I want to know specifically for the majors I stated above what chance, if any, there are

You can check past threshold GPAs for transfer admission to SJSU here:
http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html

The other CSUs with chemical engineering are Pomona and Long Beach. For materials engineering, the only other CSU is San Luis Obispo.

@ucbalumnus‌ yeah i’ve looked at those but honestly i don’t know what that means. if the threshold is say a 2.0 then does that mean they accept students with 2.0 gpas?

It means that was the average gpa of students that got accepted.

Actually, those SJSU pages list the minimum GPA for admission that year. However, future year thresholds may be different, and depend on how many applicants for the given major there are.

@ucbalumnus‌ if that is the minimum does that imply that a person with as low as that good get in and someone with a gpa higher than that has a fighting chance in the selection process?

Meaning that applicants with the specified GPA for their majors were admitted; others were admitted as undeclared if they met the GPA threshold for undeclared. Of course, the thresholds could be different this year, depending on the number of applicants for each major.

Update: Ended up switching majors and have gotten accepted to some other campuses. Still waiting on hearing back from SJSU though.

Update: I have been admitted to SJSU. I did apply with just barely higher than a 3.0 though. That wouldn’t have been possible without earning an AS-T.

For those in the future reading this here’s my advice . . . research all the options available. Find out if there are any programs designed to help you transfer. Even if it seems like it isn’t going to happen don’t give up. You have the power to shape your own future. Once you realize how to take control of your life things will start to fall into place.
