Except for UCM and UCB, the rest of us are still on break. Well, we have a few weeks left. I'm excited to start school soon, but I'm nervous as well. Taking a look at all of my class' syllabus, I feel intimidated by the amount of things my professors plan on lecturing/teaching for each meeting day. I guess you can say I'm still not used to the thought of a 10-week quarter schedule, nor am I mentally prepared for the workload that I will be given.

Just wondering, does each class you take at a UC have test/exam curves? If so, are they big/small? I do hope the professors/TA's understand and sympathize with the challenging curriculum we have to undertake and will cut us a little slack. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if there were no curves/extra credit assignments/anything that would help your grade as this is a UC after all.

I'm pretty excited though nonetheless. I think I speak for most of us that when we first stepped onto our respective UC school, that you could definitely feel the vibe, intellectualism, and pretty much a more competitive, friendlier environment than where we previously came from.

I’m very excited! School starts soon and I can’t wait to step into a new environment and have new experiences.

The vibe I got from visiting the campus to which I’m transferring was great. I knew instantly that I’d love it here at UCLA. My classes probably won’t have curves or anything crazy like that, but they’ll be challenging nonetheless!

I must also say that I probably won’t suffer from the Freshman 15, though, since the campus is so damn big that it takes 10-15 minutes to get anywhere by walking, lol

I was always rooting for UCLA but my daughter was not so sure. Anyhow, she went on a college tour of UCLA, Irvine, and 3 other LA area campuses in March, and she was just kind of so-so about all of them. Then she was headed to the last stop, UCLA, and I was thinking, she’s going to think it’s too big, she isn’t going to like it - and then she texted me: “This is the place! This is where I’m meant to be!”
It was instantaneous, the vibe, everything…

@Cayton Any concerns over the rigor of the courses you’ll be taking this Fall? I can’t imagine how crazy competitive it is over at that campus! I must say, I think you might be the only one on this forum who has got everything figured out and isn’t anxious whatsoever!

I also must point out that I am still not familiar with my campus. Finding our classes will be a pain in the ass the first couple of days/weeks!

I think you said your daughter got in at Berkeley, IIRC. Did she even give Cal a chance? :P

And yeah, once I set my eyes upon Royce Hall and the Powell Library, I had that realization that UCLA was right for me. :D

@xcyl40

Yes, I do. I’m not too worried, though, since it seems that transfers adjust pretty well on campus and especially to my major, even though it’s not easy whatsoever.

I’m a little anxious. But I’m confident that I’ll be fine, and I believe everyone else on this forum will be fine too, as long as they do what they need to do to succeed. Work hard and try not to party too much, lol.

And yeah, I’ll be kind of lost for the first couple of weeks of school. I’ll be carrying a map everywhere I go on campus, looking at it religiously so I don’t get lost.

I"m a bit nervous heading to UC, especially living on my own for the first time. I just can’t get over the jitters that I have to be independent for the first time in my life.

I’m so excited. It seems challenging but fun. Work hard, play hard :)

I was concerned over the qtr system, but then I realized that I’m taking way fewer classes than I was at my cc (semester system) so it totally balances everything out. I’m scared for the competition too, but I try not to be, because it’s not good to be scared haha,

I think that as long as you don’t procrastinate, do some schoolwork everyday or every other day, the quarter system shouldn’t be too difficult to adjust to.

But, I could be wrong. To be on the absolute safe side, do some schoolwork(Even just a little. It’ll add up, I believe) every day. You’ll soon know how much work you should do to keep up with the pace of the quarter system and adjust accordingly.
