lessons at NEC

DD's oboe teacher does what Binx'x son's horn teacher does. We have been paying her the same hourly rate for 10 years (actually I think she raised it once a few years ago...well worth it). DD (not a music major) is attending a school where she receives her lessons at no cost...a 45 minute lesson for a music minor (which she is taking). In addition, she has received a small performance scholarship each quarter. Anyone considering music as a non-major needs to check the policies at each school. DD's scholarship is awarded by the orchestra director each quarter. It is the school's policy to offer private lessons to students...non-majors get a 30 minute lesson, minors get a 45 minute lesson, and majors get an hour lesson per week. DD says, however, that her lesson is seldom less than an hour long. She is very happy. Re: sample lessons...this is so varied. DD didn't pay for any sample lessons (two...both over an hour in length...not a music major). DS (for grad school) paid for two (one in NYC was $100, another here in CT $100)...the others were at no cost.
