Dartmouth
Cornell
Duke
Northwestern
WashU
UC Berkeley
Georgetown
Carnegie Mellon
Emory
UMichigan
NYU Stern
UVA
Notre Dame
Boston College
Rutgers

Based on the field of study i want to go into and the type of things i want to do in the future, what do you guys think about this tentative list of schools? Which ones shouldn't be there and which ones am i missing? I figure that there's no point in throwing any apps at HYPS simply because i'm not of that caliber. I assume you all would agree with that assessment. I need some honest opinions guys, what do you think?

ED - UPenn Wharton- big reach
EA - UChicago- slight reach/reach, unless you have great essays, then u might have a decent shot.
Dartmouth-reach
Cornell-slight reach/reach
Duke-reach
Northwestern-reach
WashU-slight reach/reach
UC Berkeley-depends on Weighted gpa. if above 4.3 then you have a decent shot
Georgetown- slight reach
Carnegie Mellon-in
Emory-in
UMichigan-good shot
NYU Stern- decent shot
UVA-idk
Notre Dame- decent
Boston College-good shot
Rutgers-in

Your stats are pretty strong. I must say from experience in applying for colleges and seeing my friends apply to many of those you listed, a lot of it is luck of the draw, in my opinion. There may be some schools that you get into, that you didn't think you would, and visa-versa.

Pretty much all those schools you listed are targets for investment banks and consulting firms, or at least, semi-targets (even Rutgers from what I have heard). Obviously, the best for business is probably Wharton, not to take anything away from other heavily recruited schools such as Chicago, Georgetown, or Duke. If I were you, I would definitely mention something in my UPENN essay about your acceptance and experience at Wharton's event and how you gained so much, hope to learn so much more, etc.

With an income like that, just donate a bunch of money. You'll get in. =)

shawty wutchu think about that, find me in the great CADILLAACCCC

Haha sorry It was so tempting!
Anyway your stats are pretty nice, I'm sure you'll get into at least half of those schools =)

UW gpa is low. Fact that you're high income, asian, from New Jersey won't help things at all. Reach for all of those schools

wow ls47 you nerd, it's "gray Cadillac"

Rutgers is not a reach, bob. You toolish mother fuc ker

Good luck but they don't offer World History SAT II in Nov.

Great Cadillac sounds better.

thanks for all the input so far, guys. especially that bit about the world history sat 2, i gotta think of somethign else now

bumpppp

You have a pretty good chance at all the schools on your list except for UPenn-Wharton. If you really love the school, take a shot early decision and hope for the best. You definitely have a chance, just not a great one. I would say schools like UChicago, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, and Northwestern are all on target. You never know, but I would be highly surprised if you didn't get accepted to at least half of those.

Good thread title by the way!

I don't think the application has a place to list income is it? You just mean you don't need aid right?

Your stats look on-target for Chicago (what do I know? I'm just a student, after all) but from what I know about Chicago's admissions, they're interested in the mind behind the activities. Certainly you're interested in our econ program, but make sure you are clear about why you would fit in with the, for lack of a better phrase, "Life of the Mind" mentality at Chicago.

I especially stress this because Chicago is the most "out there" of the colleges you're applying to-- you'll find lots of nerdy econ majors who could make a killing in the market if they wanted to, but I don't think you'll find a lot of dead-ahead all-business Wharton types. I think that's because we have a core curriculum and provide off-the-wall essay prompts on our application.

Also, when I think of schools that are similar to Chicago, I think of Swarthmore, MIT, Wellesley, Reed, and Johns Hopkins, Brown, and Columbia, none of which are on your list.

Haha, your app is almost identical to mine, and I'm applying to Wharton ED too. Upper middle class Asian guys from NJ for the win!

Overall, I'd say you're an impressive applicant: your ECs, rank, and scores are quite good. The one thing you have to watch is the overrepresented minority factor as a Chinese applicant from NJ. That could potentially hurt you at your reach schools. Also, your uw GPA isn't particularly outstanding... however, your rank is quite good so that should help counterbalance the more average GPA. I'd say you'll get into as least one of your semi-reaches/reaches if not more.

Chances on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

University of Pennsylvania-Wharton (ED)... REACH.
University of Chicago (EA)... SEMI-REACH.
Dartmouth College... REACH.
Cornell University... SEMI-REACH.
Duke University... REACH.
Northwestern University... SEMI-REACH.
Washington University in St. Louis... SEMI-REACH.
University of California, Berkeley... GOOD FIT.
Georgetown University... SEMI-REACH.
Carnegie Mellon University... GOOD FIT.
Emory University... GOOD FIT.
University of Michigan... GOOD FIT.
New York University-Stern... GOOD FIT.
University of Virginia... GOOD FIT.
University of Notre Dame... GOOD FIT.
Boston College... GOOD FIT.
Rutgers University... SAFETY.

you guys are definitely right about the GPA aspect of it. i understand that my 3.65 will be under a lot of scrutiny come application time.

i don't suppose that i can do too much to brighten things up this late in the game (going into my senior year), but if you guys have any suggestions in general or especially for wharton, please post. thanks!

Only thing that I can say is that UC Berkeley will be a high reach because your OOS.
