Recs/Essays:
My mentor professor and my AP Biology teacher will be writing them. The mentor's rec should be superb and the teacher rec should be pretty good.

My common app (personal statement) is pretty strong as well.

Ok. Now comes the issue. I really want to go to either Stanford or Columbia and don't want to deal with all the garbage of RD admissions if possible. Both of these schools are near equal to me in preference and either of these I would not mind going to at all. I know chances of getting in at Columbia ED are around 25% while Stanford EA at 14-15%. Where do you think I have the better chances of getting in?

What do you think my chances are of getting into:
Stanford EA
Columbia ED

You can’t ED to Columbia if you EA to Stanford because Stanford is Single Choice Early Action- meaning you can only apply early to one of these schools.

Of course I understand that - I’m just asking the questoin which of the schools would be more of an easier school to apply to early with a higher chance of acceptance.

(in reply to sg12)^ He/She already knows, said that he/she wanted help deciding which.

I’d root for Stanford because of it’s beautiful campus and California location, and also you’re a Calif. resident. Also, Early Action Single Choice is not that much unlike ED. But Columbia has a really urban setting, if you like that kind of thing. To be honest, I’d say go with your heart, because I think you can almost definitely get into either of those. :)

I lived in a small town for quite a while in my life and to be completely honest, I need a city. So I understand that Columbia is a good choice for that. However, I went to Stanford and also was amazed with the place, that’s where the going gets tough in terms of decision making.

LOL. If you want palm trees and sunny weather as well as a 8000+ acre campus, Stanford. If you want lots of snow, rain and extreme (and I mean extreme because it’s LITERALLY in the middle of a city) city life, Columbia. I’m actually pretty stunned at how different the schools that you chose are, in terms of climate and settings. But if you’re looking to go into science/meds both are excellent.

LOL sorry I didn’t read the whole post.
I’ve been to Stanford and it was awesome so that’s my vote.
Also, consider that Columbia has a very strict core curriculum that students are required to take so look into that.
Again, sorry about the last post :)

as someone who lives really close to nyc, i want to mention that the city’s really expensive. if you’re the type that has money to burn on broadway and soho and bars though, it’s great. (also, if you’re rude and like to dress in black. seriously, the stereotypes are mostly true.)

btw, i think your app is great and you probably have a good shot at both. not that i would know.
