Let’s get organized!

waffle iron, crockpot, extra dish towels? I’m very short, and those “high up/deep” spaces frustrate me too!

I use the high up shelves for stuff that I only use every once in a blue moon. I’m only 5’3 so I can’t reach with out a step stool either.

Less than 24 hours I think and my nifty reusable bag/water bottle/ziploc filler device has arrived! Staged for this photo. Folds up easily and will store without taking much room. Heavy duty metal.

I have a 3 ring binder labeled Life. It looks exactly like a recipe book (it was sold with a matching book labeled Recipes). So it’s up with my recipe books next to it’s twin. Everything is in there hopefully that anyone needs to know. All the CCs, the numbers/PW for accounts, subscriptions. A list of contacts of friends and familly.
I do my best to keep it updated. Has places for doc/vet numbers etc. I add the CC numbers with the phone numbers to call in case they get lost or stolen, the insurance card numbers, whatever is in my wallet. It’s a great way to keep everything in one place.

[Surpahs Over The Sink Multipurpose Roll-Up Dish Drying Rack (Warm Gray, Large - 20.5" x 13.1")](https://www.amazon.com/Surpahs-Multipurpose-Roll-Up-Drying-Large/dp/B00P8KHRIU/ref=sr_1_14?

I’m terrible at providing links but you get the idea.

This over the sink drying rack is “da bomb” as my kids used to say. The entire rack is wrapped in silicone (not all are and have metal rods). It lives on my sink. I use it as drying rack, as extra counter space–you can put hot pots directly on it, to drain washed veggies etc. It’s like adding counter space. Plus you can just roll it up and put it in the dishwasher. Very little space if you want to store it away. It comes in different sizes so you definitely need to measure. It has a bit of flexibility so I don’t trust it for expensive wine glasses.

I have one of those too that came with my sink. I love it!

I’m ordering this for my son who has limited counter space. I wondered if anyone had personal experience with it! Thank you!

Thanks @gouf78 - I had never seen that before but will definitely consider buying one

I recently saw one of those roll up dish racks either in a YouTube video or contained in an article (who knows - maybe an article linked on this thread). Hope all will report back.

I was in Costco today and noticed they have much of an aisle dedicated to organizational products. Made me think of this thread.
It seems like many of you have made substantial investments in things to help with organization.
I’m still trying to figure out what things might work better for me.

I will say that the parts of my life that I figured out how to organize years ago, have for the most part stayed organized. I redid my kitchen in 2014 and I thought a lot about it. I love 90% of it and have managed to keep it working despite my natural impulses to chaos. My drawers got Marie Kondo’d two years ago and have stayed organized. But don’t ask me about my dining room table - which I will blame on the fact that the basement lost half of its shelves when we put in back up batteries for solar power and we are still waiting for that project to be finished.

The one thing I Marie Kondo’ed and have kept it religiously is storing my kitchen towels and all our cloth napkins (I only use cloth now). H cannot understand my need for this!!

So, I have two small things to add to this conversation:

  1. I saw the first image online, and created the second in our kitchen and love it. Of course, it’s morphed a bit and is a bit busier:

(Not sure why this second image is rotated 90 degrees…)

  1. While we have two wooden plastic bag drying racks that my dad made us for baby bottles; I now have a set of 6 of these (pick your own color…), and really enjoy using them both to fill my silicone bags, and to dry them as well. To fit this thread, I was much happier one I figured out to hang them in my pantry in a small multi pocketed organizer (had on hand, from the dollar store).

Wow! That is quite a display.

Would not work for me… I want my walls and countertops as clear as possible; so I trained my brain to remember which drawer stores what gizmos.

That reminds me a lot of my mother’s kitchen which was inspired by Julia Child’s pegboards.

Yeah, I knew some would like, some not. But it works really well for me & is all magnet based, so easily adjustable. (And breaks up the grey side of the fridge)

Is it on the fridge? It was hard for me to tell with it sideways. That is cool. Wouldn’t work for me because my stove and my fridge are not that close together, but I like it. I have a friend who has magnetic spice jars on the side of her fridge. Similar to this: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/5b/77/10/5b77101382e2edc4416558ad4b9cd2d3.jpg

Yes, it’s on the fridge, and close to the mixer, and the oven is behind where I was standing when I took the picture. The cooktop is on the other side of the kitchen (so, the tools are mostly for when I bake.). DH has a smaller setup for when he makes bread diagonally across the kitchen. Keeps him out of my tools!

Re: @Hoggirl 's folded plastic bags: I do that with mine. Otherwise it’s chaos. I thought it was called a flag fold, not a paper football fold, but whatever.

I put several, folded up, in the bottoms of the waste paper baskets around the house. Then, when I empty one of the baskets by removing the full bag, a new bag is right there in the bottom waiting for me to unfold it.

I find it soothing to fold a bunch of plastic bags while I’m watching some junk on TV. It also means that I can toss the bags that are torn at the same time.
