I got accepted to Vandy a few weeks ago and I am sure there are more and more people getting acceptances and or hearing new things about the school.
Grats to everyone, you were given a great opportunity.

lets break these questions down, and have people talk about each one from what they saw.
I hope I can make a decent review for people who are attending or are contemplating.

1) Population- This is probably the most important question that many students have., They want to find their "group"?(Though probably not good to group up, its college grow balls, pucker up, and make friends. This isnt highschool) Please answer these to your best ability, and any other info about the general pop.
a) Scientists?
b)Gay students (Pulling this from the post right above me, It seems to be a concern so help that kid out)
c)Artsy kids?
d)Jocks?(I know i said it already but, its vandy)
e)Greeks
f)Party Fiends
g) NORTHERN V SOUTHERNERS

2) Keep in Mind Greek Life is big...But If you make Vandy, you are the smartest in the country and you dont have time to be an ass.... You go to Albany or some BS school to party your future away. Vandy kids are the TYPE OF KIDS that...Can smoke pot, drink bear, but still find a way to get an A on the test. They're freaks like that!!! =) Not a bad thing though.

3)Campus life??? What did you think on campus? Is it like our own Hogwarts???..Except Dumbledore has a Glock instead of a wand?

4) Shopping?
5) Safety on Campus is Tops I know that......Safety OFF?
6) Outside

Lets face it, I am not going to ask questions about Academics...Its Vanderbilt...Its hard....
Advice----> Get you head on straight, dont jerk around, do what you got to do, have fun-
--But dont screw your GPA up.

From my observation, if you spend all your time smoking pot and drinking beer, I’m pretty sure you won’t get an As at Vanderbilt.*

Just to clarify my perspective, I’m a current student.

*assuming you’re not cheating

But, its called an example to show beastness

But, be warned its not true. Anyone who comes to Vandy with that perception isn’t going to do too well first semester.

That being said, I think Vanderbilt students in general maintain a good sense of balance between working and partying. Does that balance result in all As? Not for most people. But given the level of fun most engage in, most people do all right (3-3.3 gpa).

This might help clarify the campus culture you may be referring to: http://discoverarchive.vanderbilt.edu/bitstream/handle/1803/3568/10-26%20Vandy%20Hustler.pdf?sequence=1

I might be taking your comments too seriously, in which case, I apologize.

Yea i like to joke around, dont take me to seriously lol and just remember people exagerate 90000000000000000% percent of the time

Whats the grading system like for science majors? Lots of schools approach this differently. I was surprised to find out that Notre Dame curved their science or math, I forget which, to a B plus. Then Tulane limits the number of A’s per class (supposedly they will only give out 2 to 3) in the science and math courses. (Making it hard to strive for an A if there are even 2 to 3 kids smarter than you in the class.)

Can anyone comment on that for Vandy?

thanks

All P/F students are expected to meet normal course requirements (e.g., reports, papers, examinations, laboratory attendance) and are graded in the normal way. At the end of the semester, students enrolled on a P/F basis are awarded a regular grade. Any grade of D– or above is converted in the Student Records System to a P, while other grades remain as awarded. A student taking a course on a P/F basis must meet the course prerequisites as set forth in this catalog.

The grade P is not counted in the grade point average nor used in the determination of honors. The grade of F earned under the P/F option is included in the calculation of grade point average just as it would be when earned on a regularly graded basis.

For my gen Bio class, I know it was curved so the average was a C+. One section got to drop a test grade, though mine didn’t. For 1st year Orgo though, it was just straight up (lowest quiz grade dropped).
