Lets be honest here, how hard is it to get into uc Berkeley as a transfer?

Okay, well I screwed up sophomore year and got a 3.0, but I know that I am capable of MUCH,more than that, in junior year I got a 4.7! I will be going to ccsf, and ive already completed most major prerequisites (w/4.0) but I need to finish up igetc. How hard is it to transfer to Berkeley from there? For l&s.

Depends on your major, gpa, and essay(?)

What is your major

It’s only hard if you don’t have the drive

Oh, I DEFINETLY,have the drive I could have gone to uc Davis, ucsd or other college and im choosing to do the CCC route! My major is mathematics.

And why did you put essay(?) But not extra curriclars?

Just aim for all A’s and get involved in an extracurricular that interests you. You have a clean slate now and you know you’re capable of straight A’s, so do it and accept nothing less! That’ll get you into Berkeley.

Yeah, I dont have a clean slate (done most major prereqs with 4.0 already) but a good one!

Aren’t you still in high school? You couldn’t possibly know if you could have gone to UCD or UCSD if you haven’t applied yet.

You’ve already taken college classes and have been getting all As?

Yeah, ive already taken the calc courses. And your right, I dont knoe that for sure but everyone is calling them my safeties based off of ECs and test scores ;)

Please ignore spelling; its hard to type on this phone haha

I also plan to get linear algebra, differential equations, English, and some more classes out of the way during my senior year. So I should be in good shape tp be a one year transfer!

But I do know I could have gone to trinity.college of Dublin! I already was in contact with the admissions faculty and they gave me an unnofficial acceptance! I cant pay for ot though :(

ECs don’t get you into a school, GPA does. I know LOTS of people who got rejected from UC Davis and they were surprised because they thought it was a safety. And I know a lot of people who applied to multiple UCs and only got into a few of them, and they weren’t by ranking- as in, they got into LA but not Davis. A safety is your local CSU, which I believe is required to accept you if you live.

Make sure you can handle your senior courseload in addition to all of those college classes. That sounds like a lot. Although, if you are so set on doing CC transfer then I guess you could take the easiest load possible at your hs to guarantee you extra study time for the college classes.

Also look into taking summer classes. I know CCSF still has some summer classes but idk if any of them apply to your major or IGETC or are even UC transferable. If you’re cool with putting down $2k, you could register for UCB’s summer session D which starts Monday and see how you like the school.

Although, similarily I know people who got imto uc Berkeley with 3.1 GPA because of ECs so YES they matter for freshman apps. And no, I will NOT go to a state university when I still have a chance of getting into prestigious colleges, even if it is from a CCC.

And my high school allows students to get off early if they are participating in community college classes, so ill be able to handle it.

this is how I got accepted:
Got an A in every single class I took at CC.
Finished all pre-reqs.
Got a relevant internship to my major.
Had a clear vision for my career goals and portrayed that in my essays.

= Accepted

Oh just to clarify something; my high school doesnt offer AP classes during sophomore year…

don’t even worry about ECs. Aim for all As and you’ll be set.

How do you get a relevant internship to mathematics though? I already know that I want to be a college proffessor at trinity college of Dublin!

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC

Yeah, it just broke up into convrrsations about freshman wpps (more EC heavy for many non ucs) and continuing about the transfer path (Mostly ALL GPA based)

And dont you have to have pre requisites finished to even apply? I dont understand. Haha
