Does TAMU really care about how good your essays are if you are academic admit (top 25% with 1300)? It seems like it would just be a formality.

I plan on applying as a petroleum engineer btw if that makes a difference.

No. But if you want to major in PetE, then definitely yes.

Essays’ are used to determine scholarship potential.

so since your academic admit your not automatically accepted into your 1st choice major?

I’ve heard you get accepted into the school first and then placed into your major by availability. If you apply the first day you can you will probably get your first choice since you will automatically be accepted and there will be spots in that major. I was accepted but mechanical engineering was full so now I’m in industrial engineering until the day that I can hopefully transfer.

why do you say if pet. eng., then yes?

if you apply early and are auto admit arent you set?

scholarships. Do a half way job on the essays and just see how it works out for you. Here’s how close it is when it comes to scholarships:

Me: 6 in my class, 3.9 UW 4.45 Weighted wrote all three essays- got a scholarship
Other girl: 11 in the class, roughly a 4.4 weighted, wrote all three essays- got absolutely no scholarships
Our credentials were nearly identical. Why they chose me over her I have no idea. But I absolutely guarantee you that if you do not do every single essay or at least the required 2 at full potential you will not be seeing a scholarship come your way.

The essays won’t help with admission if you are already auto-admit. You get accepted into the school first then your intended major. If your intended major has space and you are accepted into the school then you should get into your major of choice. So yes, the essays are a formality for you in regards to admission.

cool. so whenever i get my acceptance letter it will say your accepted to tamu. but then i get another one saying i was accepted in PetE?

I believe that is correct. It’s been months since I received all my letters back from them, but I remember getting separate ones for sure.

marzbarz - my daughter got one letter telling her she was accepted to the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University
