Hey guys. I've already applied to my schools but I wanted to kinda look at my chances.
If I am a person with a 3.82 gpa, a 2080 SAT score (superscored) and have many leadership positions in my school, do I have a decent chance getting into Duke? I also think my essays were pretty good. What do you guys think?

Okay… maybe if I list out part of my entire resume it might help some of you guys a bit more.

GPA. uw: 3.8 w: 4.4
rank: 12/590

classes: mostly honors and AP classes (about 7 my entire senior year)

awards: AP scholar, Academic letter (given to students with a 3.8 weighted gpa for a semester or something like that)

Test Scores:
SAT: (projected): about a 2080~ in superscore
SAT subj scores: 730, 690, 650 (us history, math 1 and chemistry)
AP scores: 4’s in chem, ush and english language.

leadership roles/extracurriculars

president of my school’s bible club, and math club. (been involved for 2 years.)
vice-president of my school’s recycling club (been involved for 2 years.)
member of NHS (3 years)
1st chair clarinetist in my school (been involved w/ band for 3 years)
youth music leader at my previous Korean church for two years.

essays/recommendations:
I think one of my essays is great, the other one good.

As for recommendations: I think they are both good.

special programs that I’ve been involved with:
Sun Youth Program- local leadership forum type of thing
Boys State- was the chaplain of my model city.

So… what do you guys think?

I think your SATs are too low. Especially looking at the deferred/rejected ED class this year. Everything else looks good.
Also make sure that your extracurriculars somehow parallel your intended major.

i wouldn’t say your SAT scores would hold you back, although it depends on what u want to study. i got accepted ED with a 1970. also i think Duke looks for if not ‘athletic’ at least active students.

I think your SATs are too low and the fact that you have yet to pull a 5 on any AP exam makes me think your high school AP courses aren’t worth a darn. ECs are decent.

I have never heard that your extracurriculars should somehow correspond to your intended major… they know that probably 85% of students change their intended major, if they had one at all

I think you’re a solid candidate.

There is nothing on there that should hold you back.

On the other hand, there’s nothing that particularly stands out and makes you stellar.

But you’re a solid candidate.
