Lets Do This

Asian Male ~ Public HS in New Jersey ranked #20th in state

GPA: 4.14/4.33 (school don't rank but i think i'm in 10%) approx 500 kids
I was top 1% of class for both freshman/sophomore and b/c i jacked up my junior course loads (i was retarded) i ended up with straight B+s and Bs junior year (i think this might hurt a bit)

SATs: June 2007. Math 750, CR 630, WR 790 = 2170 (i'm DEF gonna retake in Oct and possibly Nov. again (which is in time for ED) and bring up the CR...i dunno wut happened there (got 700 on Psat?)

SAT II: Math lvl II 800, Biology M 750 (AP BIO 5)

I'm pretty big on ECs...

1) XC/Winter + Spring Track: every season for all 3 years so far (Varsity)...NJ State Shore Coaches X.C. Invitational 2006 BOYS JV A 24th place, 1600m (sophomore) PR was 4:53.1...my running career took an unfortunate turn right after xc junior year (misaligned ligament in ankle)...but this XC coming up, we hope to get into top 10 in State. (last year we were 19th). I will get a lil supplement letter from coach but b/c i'm not good enough for recruitment, how much my times would help me getting into a school is up for grabs... :( ...but i'm asian who is good at track! lol

2) Table Tennis :: Current NJ State Ranking for 17 year olds: 7th place / 95th in country...(but who really plays tt? it isn't even a sport in college so i dunno if they will look at this that much...i stopped competing after 2005 cuz i had track...)

Stiga Open on the 2005 Stiga North America Tour: June 25-26, 2005 Under 1550 Finalist
Eastern Open on the 2005 Stiga North America Tour: July 23-24, 2005 Under 1400 Champion
Eastern Open on the 2005 Stiga North America Tour: July 23-24, 2005 Under 1700 Finalist
2005 New Jersey State Table Tennis Championships: April 16-17, 2005 2nd place Junior Under 18 Doubles

3) Piano (another asian activity...)played for about 8 years (quit that as well after i joined track....)

...dunno how much exactly this will help cuz i stopped...but i'll be sending in a recording of 5 songs tho (just to show i actually DO play and is not thattt bad lol)

4) EURO CHALLENGE...my team competed at the NYC federal reserve bank in 2006 (sophomore) and came in **THIRD/B

5) FED challenge/U

6) Got accepted into the NJ Governor's School for International Studies 2007...=)....hope this helps...

whole bunch of lil awards like...
*National Latin Exam Magna Cum Laude
*French Honor Society
*PSAT..will get Letter of Commendation
*National Honor Society lol

....yea....that's all i have....i think wut hurt me most is my junior year grades...hopefully i'll bring up the CR to 750ish...i just dont know how much tt and piano is gonna help me cuz i kinda stopped after sophomore year....so i hope the tape will help....

Teacher Recs will be VERY GOOD...
hope my essay will be allright.....

UPenn (ED?)
Columbia (maybe ED?)
Stanford
Duke
JHU
NYU ~ every single kid w/ wGPA of 4.0 or above from my school that applied to NYU for the past 6 years..got in.. :)
WUSTL
Georgetown
University of Rochester
Rutgers (Honors program)
Tufts (maybe?)

PLLLLLLLLZ be honest...THANKS for the time (i realized that this is a long post...)

how do you have an above 4.0 GPA with straight B's and B+'s junior year? Those grades are going to hurt and lot and your SAT 1 score is not that amazing either. if you're not good enough to be recruited for track it's not going to help you THAT much.

also, how do you know your school is ranked #20 in NJ? what ranking is that based on?

oo thats weighed GPA....yea bout the SATs i'll bring them up (i wanna hit 225+ and i think i can with two more chances). bout the high school rank, its from my guidance advisor, i think he took it from the NJ Monthly newspaper

le bump...

Your list is wildly optimistic. Unless you will be an athletic recruit, you are out of range for ivy caliber schools. All Bs junior year kills it completely. You are in a super competitive as an ORM from NJ, I don't think a URM from South Dakota could be accepted with all Bs, representing a drop, junior year.

If you got a 2400 you wouldn't be in.

NYU seems reasonable, Rochester and Rutgers honors.

interesting take...from my school, just based on the stats/program (based on the acceptances from kids from my hs) my guidance advisor showed me, my SAT and GPA guarantees me (about 100%) admission into NYU, Rochester and JHU, and around 65-70% WUSTL.[last year alone 33 kids from my school applied to NYU (not stern tho)and 27 got in and only 7 went] I know my SATs are that great...yt, i honestly think i'll be able to hit 2300 with two more tries...i mean i know that junior grades really sucked but i took all APs and 3 Honors, the 3rd hardest course load for my class (stupid yes) and when i meant recruitment i went division I, I can be recruited for D III

allright...yea i'm def gonna do that (wustl coach expressed interest?) yea that junior year grade drop was my biggest fear...sh**...i think i'll just cross my fingers and hope that my teacher recs and personal essay will be able to do sumthin...thanks for all the input!

plz? more comments? thanks!

Just curious, how did you find out about a table tennis leauge, I tried searching for one, but was unable to find a couple for youths.

go to USATT.org and do a little search on that i think u should be able to come up with sumthin

performance at carnegie hall is huge tho, so if you can pull up the sat and such, i think you might have a chance at ivies, oh an that's also if you got good marks on ap exams... what did you get on them?

The straight B's hurts but may not kill you. You need to make up for your grade problem with other parts of the application (test scores, ECs, essays, recs, interview). So far you have excellent ECs. The essays, recs, and interview I do not know about. I think your test scores need some beefing up, at least 2300 in light of your grades. However, the grade problem is mitigated in part considering he's in the top 10%-I sense grade deflation. Getting recruited will help but may not be necessary. 2 statements of advice: Apply ED and get A's senior year even if it requires a lighter courseload than junior year. So far I'd advise ED to Penn, they seem very generous to their ED applicants.

By school:
UPenn (ED?)-ED Low Reach, RD High Reach
Columbia (maybe ED?)-ED Low Reach, RD High Reach

i doubt you can be recruited anywhere. Yes you can run at DIII schools, but the coaches there will likely have little pull in admissions. I run a 4:39 and i'm getting nothing from ivies.Your SAT is low for an asian. I have no idea what your table tennis skill will do in admissions but hopefully it will help. WRite good essays and you might get in ED either upenn or columbia but it's still gonna be a reach

UPenn (ED?)-Reach
Columbia (maybe ED?)-Reach

JHU-Low Reach
