i BOMBED world history. i got a 610. my other sat scores are 750 ushist, 730 bio, and 660 chem (ouch)! will this hurt a lot if i'm applying to HYPSM? i could retake, but would that look bad? also, i got a 5 on the world ap, so does that offset my 610 in any way? i also got a 5 on bio (if that compensates for the -70) i'm expecting a 5 on chem as well.

I agree with biomaster...700+ all around is competitive for the Ivies.

I'm still mad about that 760 in USH...I thought I owned that!
but I'm relatively happy with my 740 chem...since I was definitely worried I wouldn't break 700...
meh..oh well...they're just tests...

I have a question about My UShistory SATII. I'm in AP, get an A, and my teacher thought I'd get like an 800. I got a 750, and don't get me wrong...I'm definitely happy, it's a great score. I just thought I should do better, and I know part of it is because I lef 3 blank that I would've guessed correctly on, and part of it is bcause I didn't know all that pre-columbian and colonial BS. Am I correct in assuming it's not worth it to retake? (I'm looking at Brown ED)

David I'm not an expert or anything, but unless you want to major in the subject or maybe even minor in it, I think it's a perfectly fine score. You still have those people who are majoring in, for example, literature and will get a, for example, 650, but they're still accepted to Princeton, etc. And don't ever leave anything blank again, I learned that the hard way. Especially if you know you're good in the subject and you know you have a better chance at guessing.

Lol. I want to major in history and I got a 770 WH frosh year. I still don't think you need a 800 on your 'favorite' subject test. I think 750+ are perfectly respectable scores.

so the consensus here seems to be that anything 750 or above is not worth retaking.....? i wonder whether they lump ranges of scores into categories...for instance, would 770 from 800 be considered more or less equal, 730 to 760 and so on?

acceptances arent really based on what you're planning to major in anyway....no? I think that's a major difference between American universities and others...you can apply undecided..
I'm kinda/sorta planning on majoring in biochem...got a 740 on chem and an 800 on bio-m...not planning on retaking chem...mainly because I'll probably do worse...meh..
It's probably not worth it to retake...
750 is perfectly competitive anyway...regardless of what you plan on majoring in...

Alright thanks everyone. If people on this site say 750+, then I know I'm ok, becaue us CCers tend to have unrealistic standards anyways, so that's good news. Now that I think of it, no way do I want to review again for USH and retake it, I bet I could improve about 30 points, but who cares. Congrats to all of you on your awesome scores!

What about the SAT I? Whats competitive there? Also, say you have pretty good SAT IIs (800, 790, 750 chem/ushist/lit), how much would that make up for an SAT I? btw, I'm only taking it once (this June) no matter what b/c I am fed up with testing BS, but I'm just curious as to what I need to be aiming toward. Thanks!

i was just wondering, do more competitive colleges prefer SAT over ACT? Will it annoy them to just submit an ACT score? Because one of my friends got a 35 on the ACTs and a 2000~ on the SATs (He says the 35 was a fluke ;)). Just curious.

actually, i think people do have a tendency to do better on the ACT because it's based more around an HS curriculum
