Hi ! Assuming you've made it into the NASS, what type of pre-conditioning workouts do you recommend doing? More cardio and running, or weight lifting, or whaaatever?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :-)

Take it easy. Obviously don't fall into a physical slump. Maintain good physical condition, but don't kill yourself. My personal recommendations are running with the Long Distance Track team and practice your pullups.
Just be ready for the heat and humidity.
Oh, and never give up.

Oh, Lord..... This is SO embarassing! I weighed myself yesterday and I swear I saw a little white flag come out of the scale. I seriously need to get myself back into some semblance of shape!

You should do a Google on SEAL training or some such. There is an official page that provides a week-by-week calisthenics program.

Yeas, I know you're not going to BUDS (yet?), but hey, it can't hurt.

Best of luck!

Oh, and amen on the humidity. UGH!

ETA: Woops! Sorry! It looks like the page I remember has been taken down by the Navy for liability reasons (God, I HATE lawyers!). Let me see if I can find an equivalent.

that truly was the best response i ever read on this website!

Here's a link to a Marine program...

Still looking...

ETA: Here's a generic "boot camp" one. It should suffice:

Now, words of advice from one who (despite current physique) has BTDT: Drink LOTS of water, don't injure yourself, and remember that you're not going to be ready to breeze through BUDS in three days. It takes time for your body to adjust and strengthen itself. Also, remember to REST. Your body can't repair itself if you don't slow down.

Best of luck!

You do want to taper down for ~1 week before attending NASS to be at your peak performance when you arrive. Other than that, YES, get ready!

http://stewsmith.com/ has some good free stuff online, some books (online or in local stores). My son used this ebook and was very happy with the results: http://store.stewsmithptclub.com/usnaacplsupr.html

Also, USNA has info here: http://www.usna.edu//PEScheds/workouts.htm

Good Luck!

Honestly the workouts at SS were not that difficult. If you are active and arent a complete couch potato you´ll be just fine. I mean I maxed out 4 of the events on the CFA so i´m in pretty good shape, but none the less, dont worry about it too much. Its not even a whole week of your life. The only part I struggled a little with was the running. Its like 100 plus outside and you do a fair amount of running between the mornings and the tests and stuff. I´d be more worried about bringing sunscreen than than about whether you can do 75 or 100 pushups. I dont mean to downplay working out, i just wouldnt want anyone to be stressing about it. Now Sea Trials were hard, but thats more of a mind game than anything else. The first thing I did that day was jump in the water in sweats and get wet and sandy. Oh i could go on all day. Take it easy. If anyone has any questions about it feel free to PM me

don't stress about it. cross country season had ended 6 months before, softball had been over for 2 months, and i had been on vacation for the 2 weeks before Summer Seminar. i didn't do as well as a lot of people on the CFA, but i managed to pass with no problems--well i assume i passed b/c i ended up with an appt. The day to day stuff was not a problem either--it is split up so that you have plenty of time between physical activities to catch your breath and rest your body. congrats on being accepted, and your enthusiam is admirable.

you really might want to check out www.stewsmith.com, he actually leads PEP for SEAL PEP morning. He has a NASS workout posted on his website.

Here's a link to "The Official Naval Academy Workout" book.

This book was written by the maniac who taught us PEP during Plebe Summer, Heinz Lenz:

It wouldn't surprise me if that guy is still teaching it, too. At 60+ years old he was able to run any three mids into the ground, so I figure at 80+, he can run any two.

Rumors had it he'd taught PT to the SS. The guy was unreal.

oh man, i hope i get a letter saying im accepted . . .

i really wanna go . . . sigh

(then that will give me a reason to work out more then i already do)
