I was debating with myself on whether or not this would be a lame thread to post but what the heck, let's do it anyway!

Okay, so I think the only concrete decision I have made regarding housing is that I don't want to live on Green Street (not that there is anything wrong with it). I like the idea of living in the Quad but it just seems sort of far away. Also I've heard from Smithies is that is generally the loudest part of campus, I don't know enough about it to say yay or nay.

I generally want something on Elm or Central campus, girls who are rowdy (but not all the time) with dining available without having to put shoes on. I generally want to live in an area where I wont miss a thing and where there is something going on nearby.

Right now I've narrowed it down to Haven/Wesley, Lamont, Northrop, Gillett, Chase and Capen (even though it's remoteness bothers me).So if you lovely people have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them.

Haven's getting renovated this summer (Wesley was renovated about 7 years ago, and it's pretty nice inside). We have pretty good house community, and do things like cook our own dinners every once in awhile and have a lot of fun. We don't have in-house dining, though (but Chapin is right next door and it's open for Grab-and-Go lunch and dinner five nights a week).

Of your list, only Lamont, Northrop, Gillett, and Chase have dining, but Chase is also the senior house - I'm not sure you'd be able to live there as a transfer.

Those all sound like good houses, and don't discount the quad too much. It is the farthest away, but that means that its fifteen minutes to class instead of ten.

Haven is the house i planned on living in, and I think it's lovely. Though I ended up across the street in Cutter, which I hated when I found out, but have grown to love and am now house president. I say this only because we tend to have a high number of transfers and Adas in Cutter/Z, so you might find yourself among us next year.

I can tell you that my D lives in the quad and loves it! Provides all the company you want and desire, and is still pretty tame and quiet. Don't let others fool you; Smith is a relatively quiet college, period; quad, green st. or center campus. It's nice as a first year to be around many others, as it makes the "homesick blues" go away. Believe me, it will hit you sooner or later. I think all of the houses, regardless of their location on campus, are quite nice. The quad just provides a nicer community feel IMHO. The walk to classes is no big deal at all according to my D, ten minutes is all it takes. Granted, when it's snowing and there is a foot of snow on the ground, walking next door to class is nice; but the quad really does provide a comfortable surrounding and an opportunity to meet many other young women from all walks of life.
