Let's play rank California universities...

This is always a fun game that gets people a bit aggravated.
Let’s narrow it down to research universities that grant degrees up to the Ph.D level and carry an undergraduate program. Use whatever measures you want to pick your favorites.

Stanford

Caltech

Berkeley

UCLA

USC

UCSD

UCSB

UCI

UCD

UCSC

UCR

UCM

Stanford

Berkeley

Caltech

UCLA

UCSD

USC

UCSB

UCD

UCI

UCSC

UCR

UCM

Stanford, Cal Tech, Berkeley, who cars about the rest lol :)

Stanford

Caltech

Berk

UCLA

USC

Top five. Did someone previously REALLY think that UCSD is better than Southern Cal?

I totally think not.

CalTech

Stanford

Pomona/Harvey Mudd

Berkeley

USC

UCLA

UCSD

Pepperdine woo hoo my friend is going there

a little personal reference esp with UCLA below USC

Can we do that? I just posted my top five universities rank, I'll do a CA liberal arts one (actually, it'd just be a ranking of the Claremonts, pretty much).

Pomona

Claremont McKenna

Harvey Mudd

Scripps

Occidental

Pitzer and Mills round them out. California lacks many liberal arts colleges.

Stanford

Cal Tech/Cal

UCLA

UCSD

USC

UCI/UCD

UCSB

Stanford

Berkeley

Caltech

USC

UCLA

UCSD

UCSB

UCD

UCI

UCSC

UCR

UCM

my top 5:
1. Stanford
2. Caltech
3. Berkeley
4. UCLA
5. UCSD

(So yeah, I agree that UCSD beats USC)

I got a question...how would your rank the colleges for a BusEcon major? Thank you

big 4x4,

Stanford

Berkeley

UCLA

Claremont McKenna would be in that mix too as an LAC.

Where would sb and sd rank?

Did you know there is a prostitute college in S.F.? I wonder how that will fair in the new USNews rankings.

GentlemanandScholar,
The SF college you mentioned would probably get high scores from US News for several categories including Alumni giving rate, % faculty that are full time, faculty resources rank, % of class under 20, avg freshman retention rate, overperformance (+)/underperformance (-), and of course Overall score. However, the institution would have difficulties with the following categories: peer assessment score, acceptance rank, SAT/ACT, freshman in top 10% of HS class.

I really don't understand how people can rank UCSD higher than USC. I'm curious to how these people came to this conclusion.

I mean just a quick look through the major academic programs:

Business: USC >>>> UCSD
Engineering: USC = UCSD
Biological Sciences: UCSD >> USC
Communication/Journalism: USC >> UCSD
Music: USC >> UCSD
Theatre: USC >> UCSD
Public Policy: USC > UCSD
Oceanography: UCSD >> USC

I don't even think UCSD has these programs for UG:

Architecture: USC
Cinema: USC
Social Work: USC
International Relations: USC

In terms of prestige:

USC > UCSD

Stanford
UC Berkeley
Caltech
UCLA
UCSD
USC
UCSB

[ol]
[]Stanford
