Let's Play the Guessing Game CC- UPenn, WashU, Columbia, UChicago, and more! Will Chance Back!

Alright here's how this goes- I will tell you guys my stats and everything, and will list the colleges I applied to below. You can guess on the chances of me getting in, and I will tell everyone my results once the schools get back to me. I will chance back to everyone that asks me to, but please tell me your opinions as to whether I will get in or not instead of just asking me to chance you. Also, if you guys could tell me why you chanced me and where you think my application is weak, that would be great, as a pose to simply stating chances. Thank you! and best of luck (to me and you ;) )
P.S. I will be somewhat vague in order to maintain anonymity, but it shouldn't affect this much.

Okay here goes:

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 2220 (720 CR 760 M 740 M)

SAT II: World History (680 :( ), Ecological Biology (770), US History (780), Math II (760)

Unweighted GPA: 4.2 UW/ 5.1 W (I know its a weird system)

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 15% (School is very very competitive)

AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5) US History (5) Biology (5) Calculus AB (5) English Language (5)

Senior Year Course Load:
AP Gov Pol
AP English Literature
AP Spanish (have done Spanish all 4 years of HS)
AP Statistics
AP Econ (both Macro and Micro)
AP Physics B
AP Comp Sci

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar w/ Distinction, nothing else :'(

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):

Music:
I have been playing in a regional band since 8th grade (1st Chair of Section 11-12)
Participated in Marching Band from 10-12 grade. (Drum Major 12)

Academia:
Debate Club (9-12, No leadership position)
Science Olympiad (11-12, Captain 12)
Moody's Mega Math Challenge (11-12)

Others:
Baseball for HS (10-12, Varsity 11-12)
Wrote novel since 9th grade, self-published and might get a publisher. :) its a lot of work btw guys

Job/Work Experience: Worked at Fast Food restaurant over this summer

Volunteer/Community service: Small-time volunteering at library. Community service in parents' native country over the summer. Various other events I participated in. That's about it... this is probably the weakest part of my app

Summer Activities: Traveled to my parents' native country and volunteered to help the poor at an impoverished village. I worked at a fast food restaurant over this past summer as well. The rest of the time was devoted to baseball :)

Essays: Average of 9/10 for most of them, I think I was able to reflect and express myself well in my writing. My AP English Lang teacher reviewed them with me as well so :)

Teacher Recommendations:

APUSH Teacher- Very strong, I did fairly well in her class with a low A average but much more importantly we share a lot of interests and he genuinely enjoys me as a student and person. 9.5/10

Biology Teacher- Although I never got to know her as well as I did my APUSH teacher, I had a strong upwards trend in that class as I did bad at the beginning of the year and constantly improved from there on. We did share some jokes as the year progressed and they think that I am a funny, interesting, and intelligent kid. 9/10

Counselor Rec: I did not talk to my counselor at all for my freshman, sophomore, and first half of junior year. As college came on the horizon, however, I saw him more and more. Our conversations were mainly school-based however. They do know about my academic skills as well as my EC involvements, however. 8.5/10

Interview: Had an interview with Penn, it went very well, although the intterview was much more instructive than I thought it would be, as the interviewer told me all about the school and shared his enthusiasm with me. Nevertheless, I thought it went well.

Other:
State: I said I would be vague, so Northeast (not Pennsylvania)

School Type: Very Competitive Public School (6th Public HS in State)

Race: South Asian

Gender: Male

Income Bracket: 100,000

Hooks: Baseball, looked at by mediocre D3 schools that suffered academically, and my Instrument
so basically, not much :P

I plan on double majoring in Comp Sci and Economics.

SCHOOLS:

UPenn ED (SEAS) MY DREAM SCHOOOL!
Columbia
Cornell
WashU in St. Louis
UPitt
UChicago
UVA
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
MIT EA

well, since you are asian, and your activities don’t really correlate well with what you want to major in… i’m calling a long shot for UPenn, Cornell, Columbia, and MIT. WUSTL, UChig, Berkeley are all reaches, don’t take them lightly because your profile isn’t very unique, there’s thousands of kids with similar things like you. CMU is probably a no-go if ur doing compsci, major in something else there. UPITT and UVA are safeties.

bump

Hey bro,

Despite what alfa said, I disagree. I think you have a great shot at Penn, Cornell, Wash U, UCB, CMU and UVA. Pitt would be ■■■■■■■■ if they reject you. I think it’ll be reaches for you at Columbia, and Chicago. Be proud of what you’ve done during High School.

Chance back:

@xgarrison96 thanks man, it means a lot. chancing back right now

bump C’MON GUYS!

bump

@alfawarlord‌ have you taken considerable thought? Telling OP to changr majors?!

Your profile looks solid! Class ranking is an eye opener but it may be overlooked considering your school’s competition. Here are my thoughts:

UPenn ED (SEAS): low reach-or match (because of ED)
Columbia: high reach
Cornell: low reach
WashU in St. Louis: reach
UPitt: safety
UChicago: high reach
UVA: low match
UC Berkeley: reach/low reach
Carnegie Mellon: low reach
MIT EA: high reach

Also nice senior course load!

Chance my Northwestern ED?<a href=“Chances for Northwestern ED? - #2 by lellywang - Northwestern University - College Confidential Forums”>Chances for Northwestern ED? - #2 by lellywang - Northwestern University - College Confidential Forums;

Most of those are going to be reaches considering your school rank, but otherwise your profile is great! I have the same problem as I go to an incredibly competitive school (1st in Texas, 47th in nation) chance me back??
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1710951-chance-for-chance-back-ut-austin-a-m-gtech-ucsd-uc-irvine-ucla-and-uc-berkeley.html#latest</a></p>

thanks guys! bump

bump 10char

bump

I don’t understand at all why everyone thinks that your activities have to be related to what you want to major in.

I agree with @noel597‌, a lot of the time (including in my own case), people don’t know what they’d like to major in until the end of high school if ever. Not having a passion cannot be that big of a disadvantage. As long as you actively participate in some activities that you enjoy, then you’re set.

Applying SEAS ED will definitely bump your chances a lot since the acceptance rate is a lot higher for UPenn ED in general. I also applied SEAS ED so I won’t chance you on it. Hopefully, we both get in!

I think you’ll get into Cornell, WashU, UVA, Carnegie Mellon, and UPitt.

thanks guys
bump

I think you have a decent shot, the only thing js that your ECs are all over the place, its hard to tell what you care about. I would think it’s literature(based on the time commitment of the activity) but then you are in some math club. IMHO, idk what a good ec list consists of, maybe you do have good ecs, but for now, you should get into those safety schools, but cornell and CMU will be a high match-low reach depending on your essays.

Uva low reach
Pitt safety
Rest are reaches (most are low reaches)

Chance back?

I also don’t understand the focus thing…

In my case, I was split into the following:
I. helping others, uniting students, etc. (via clubs and organizations and SOME (very little) actual volunteering)
II. Tech (An internship plus different individual projects i discussed in my essays)
III. Music
IV. Random (sports and foreign language club. though, foreign language club my involvement has been essentially creating an extensive tutoring program, so I guess that falls in the I category)

Do you see focus? I don’t. I do what I love to do. That is all.

Sorry i forgot to finish. And i got into ivy league schools, mit, northwestern, wustl, duke, etc
