I think I can write some pretty good essays, and my teacher and counselor recommendations will be great. I know my counselor will talk about how I'm very driven (I skipped French IV H and Pre-Calculus H to get into AP French and AP Calc.).
I know it seems like I have a "laundry list" of ECs. I'll modify that for when I actually apply to be just the ones that are most important.

Are the following schools matches, reaches, or safeties?

UChicago EA
MIT EA
NYU
Harvard
Yale
Columbia
Princeton
UPenn
Stanford
SUNY Binghamton (OOS)
Carnegie Mellon
Johns Hopkins
Brown

No, I don't intend on applying to all of those... I just need to decide which I should apply to.

Thanks!

While your stats are good, you have quite a laundry list of ECs, which I see little to no focus in. (You go from fencing to French to history to business to chemistry to drama to...) Something so unfocused might work against you at the tippy top schools, especially Stanford.

UChicago: match
NYU: safe match
SUNY Binghamton: safety (maybe safe match, as you're OOS)
CMU: match-safe match
JHU: match

The rest you have a very good shot at.

I'm wondering, though: why SUNY Binghamton if you're OOS?

It comes VERY HIGHLY recommended from my family friend. He loves it there. I figured if I don't get into either of my EA schools I might apply. I was just making sure it was a safety.

On my activity sheet I grouped my ECs so that they look much more organized, though they still don't show much of a passion. I know that's a problem, but I love and am devoted to all of them.

By the way, intended major: chemistry, or possibly applied math with some sort of minor/concentration in chemistry.

Which is your first choice? I'd say Chicago is your best bet, among the top schools you listed (given that your essays are awesome).

UChicago EA/ low reach
MIT EA /reach
NYU /match
Harvard/reach
Yale/reach
Columbia/low reach
Princeton/reach
UPenn/low reach
Stanford/reach
SUNY Binghamton (OOS)/safety
Carnegie Mellon/match
Johns Hopkins/match
Brown/low reach

icanread seems correct on all.

UChicago EA/high match
MIT EA /low reach-she's a girl
NYU /match
Harvard/reach
Yale/reach
Columbia/low reach
Princeton/reach
UPenn/low reach
Stanford/reach
SUNY Binghamton (OOS)/safety
Carnegie Mellon/match
Johns Hopkins/high match
Brown/low reach

Your best bet is to apply to many reaches because it's hard to predict where you will get in. You may get into one of your reaches.

I got into Brown, but admissions there can be unpredictable. I wouldn't call it a low reach. UPenn is more stats-driven I think, so I think you'll get in there. Yale seems to be a little more interested in attracting academic people than Harvard, so I would definitely apply there. (I know that Harvard wants the very top academic people too, but I'm talking about the middle 50% of the class.)

Also, you should apply to Dartmouth. It's great for chemistry (particularly undergrad), and they are really looking more for academic people than many of the other ivies. I'd add Northwestern because it is particularly strong in chemistry. With your stats, I think the top LAC's would be matches too.

Awesome. Thanks, everyone!

Are there any schools on my list you think I shouldn't apply to? If I get into UChicago or MIT EA then I probably won't apply to NYU, SUNY Binghamton, Carnegie Mellon, or Johns Hopkins. Maybe I'll drop a few others too, depending on which (UChicago or MIT) I get into.

You are one of the sickest students I've seen on this site. In spite of the fact that I don't believe you, I have to say that you're probably in everywhere.

Wow. I honestly never thought of myself as that good. I mean... I've seen lots of others with all sorts of national recognition/research/really big awards, of which I have none. I lack a passion (laundry list of ECs again... I like them all, but there's no way for colleges to know that and it doesn't look good). I don't have anything unique. And everything I said about myself is true. I really doubt I'll get in everywhere, but I'll take it as a compliment that you think so.

=P If you want to see some REALLY sick students, go check out the acceptances thread for places like HYPSM. You'll see some jaw-dropping resumes, both for rejected AND accepted students.

bump?

I'd like 1 or 2 more opinions. I know it's mercilessly inaccurate, but I like when you give percentages (as in, "I think you have a 60% chance of getting into CMU"). Thanks!

UChicago EA-match
MIT EA-low reach
NYU-match
Harvard-reach
Yale-reach
Columbia-low reach
Princeton-reach
UPenn-low reach
Stanford-biggest reach
SUNY Binghamton (OOS)-in
Carnegie Mellon-in
Johns Hopkins-in
Brown-low reach

What makes S bigger than H, Y, or P?

I agree that you should consider adding Dartmouth, they tend to look for good stats. Not sure why you want Suny Binghampton? Why not apply rolling to Michigan in September instead? Its a much better school.

Okay, that sounds good.
