Let's put NYU as one of the links for top colleges on CC

this is so annoying when you have to scroll to N to find NYU. It deserves to be with that group at the top like Northwestern, JHU, etc...

i booked marked mine specifically for the NYU page. try that.

I agree! 10 char

Why is NYU not rated better than it is in the published rankings ? I always felt it should have been ranked alongside Duke and Rice and Northwestern and CMU - at least going by the respect the Stern school commands.

Yes, you’re completely right. and CAS is now better than ever, and as always we have the solid Stern, Gallatin, Tisch, etc.

Does anyone know any admins, who can change this? It is a small detail, but extremely annoying as hell having NYU smashed between New Mexico State, New Jersey blah blah. I guess the decrease in acceptance rate to under 20% will force CC to give us a link…

Why would it be next to Northwestern, Rice, and CMU? Look at the statistics. It doesn’t deserve that position.

just use a bookmark to remember this website if you visit it that often.

well what about the people who underestimate or think nyu is garbage after seeing those links?

Let them think what they think? Honestly the people who truly matter will see NYU for what it is, not whether or not it’s placed on the “top universities” list of a website. Besides people [shouldn’t] go to NYU for other people go “ooh” and gauge their worth based on the school’s name in the first place.

I don’t oppose the idea of putting it up on there but I don’t find an especially strong reason to do it. Prestige isn’t unimportant but what exactly will putting it on the top schools on collegeconfidential change your view of NYU, which in the end is all that matters? If people will judge the worth of a school based on their placement on a list then maybe they shouldn’t even bother with that school anyway.

LOL. if someone knew that little about my school that they would think NYU is “garbage” after seeing some arbitrary list, i wouldn’t want them here anyway.

No way is this a top uni…besides a handful of programs (e.g. econ and math) this school is awful…dont care a rat’s you know what about there students and the most self centered student body you’ve ever met…even the beloved stern keeps slumping in undergrad and mba rankings…crappy school that only gets its name because of location…honestly you’d waste your money go to a state school you will be much better off…no way is NYU a top university for CC everyone just has this fantasy of going to school in NYC…BTW I’m a student and only went here because of family reasons

craintrain, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions but I think I am detecting a bit of anger and hatred towards NYU, but I could be wrong.

I agree, i agree. All hail the new ivy!!!

craintrain, I think you’re just sore that you didn’t get into NYU and you go to a community college.

shabahang- craintrain has already stated that he/she is a student at NYU. Just like to point that out because I hate it when people discredit other people’s personal opinions for BS reasons.

That said, there is some truth to what craintrain says. I’m from NYC as well and NYU is very self-centered, and mostly made up of people who revel in going to a school with a well known name. In fact, most real New Yorkers shy away from NYU in favor of better colleges throughout the city. The only reason I applied was because they sent out emails to everyone in New York City this year saying “Hey, we have no actual NYC students anymore, so if you apply we’ll waive your application fee.”

I mean, not saying it’s a bad school. NYU is still a great education, it’s just not the BEST. Honestly, the little known Macaulay Honors program is an amazing education and they pay YOU to go there. If NYU is for you then go for it! If you’ve seen the school and its truly what you want then you’ll get a great education and love it there. But the people who have never even seen it and are fiercely defending it should at least look into what they’re saying.

@lauren

you are so much more articulate than i am on a saturday morning. great post. i agree with everything you said here.

NYU is a good fit for me, but it might not be the best fit for everyone just because it’s “omg NYU omg”. i’m a New Yorker as well, but i applied to NYU because of special circumstances.

CUNY Honors is a great program. i applied there after i was rejected ED from CAS and was ultimately rejected there as well, but my exboyfriend is in the program and he really likes it. they give you a macbook, pay your tuition, you really get to know your classmates and professors, and you get to have some amazing experiences.

@shaba

no need for childish taunting. this IS a college forum.

missamericanpie - I think it’s awesome that the school fits for you and you like it there. I hope no one takes my first post the wrong way, I don’t mean that everyone who goes to NYU is a self centered a-hole. It’s just the people who know nothing about the school, go there only for the title/location, and then boast about how awesome they are for going there.

Yeah, Macaulay honors at Hunter is what I really want, but I’m pretty sure I won’t get it since it is a really difficult school to get into. I got into NYU LSP, but I’m not sure if I’d consider it because I’m not crazy about NYU.

Anyway, back to the main point of this thread. NYU is a nice school that can give you a great education, but I don’t feel it deserves to be on the top list. Also, as already stated, you really shouldn’t only care about going to a school because it’s on a top list anyway. Go because it’s what you want.
