Let's say I was pretty undecided, but chose Economics.

And from what I've seen that's an impacted major (competitive and whatnot).

Is there any chance I'll be rejected for my major, because it's so competitive?

And is it too late for me to change or personally contact someone at Cal and change it?

Honestly, even if I get in, I'm going to change my major, so is there any way to do it now?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I’m a senior in high school, so I’m not gonna be taking any Economics till Junior year anyways, right?

So will my major affect the outcome of my acceptance? I was rejected from LA even when (supposedly) my counselor said I would be in for sure.

I applied for Econ, too, and was rejected at UCLA. Did you apply/get admitted to UCSD?

got admitted to SD and Irvine under the same major.

I think I may have done Political Economy of Industrial Societies for Cal, but I’m pretty sure that has similar requisites to Econ.

I got accepted at UCSD, too, but I didn’t apply to Irvine. That’s actually pretty interesting, because the US News Ranking for Econ Grad School places UCSD’s program one spot above UCLA’s program (#10 and #11, respectively). Berkeley, of course, is #3. I don’t know much else!

I honestly, don’t know what to do.

Cal is my number one, I’ll be horrified if I don’t make it.

The Colleges of Letters & Sciences and of Natural Resources do not admit people to majors, everyone is admitted undeclared so your intended major does not really matter

anon5524485 is absolutely correct. If you are applying to L&S, your major is irrelevant. While it is true that Economics is an impacted major, that will only impact you once you are at Berkeley applying to get into it.

Alright, thanks a bunch!

One less thing to excuse myself if I get rejected <.<

Also, by impacted major, it means that for an Economics major that you’ll apply for before your 3rd year, you’ll have to have a 3.0+ for your pre-requisites. If you have < 3.0, you may or may not get it.
