Let's talk baseball

I don't know any other way to put this but...YANKEES SUCK

You have to respect them though. Jeter is a great player.

I'm still support the Mariners although they are not so hot right now. They did pretty good in interleague games. I still hope for another season like in 2001. Go Ichiro!! He's amazing. Either Texas or Oakland can win the west cause the angels are so boring. Do you think that it's not fair how in the all star game yankees and red sox players claim most of the spot? I get it that they are good but they should let others have a chance to. Btw, did you guys notice all the young players right now? Like liriano and mauer. They are so good.

TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS!!!

Rangers better win the AL West or I'll be mad.

If I remember correctly, the Yankees just swept the Chicago White Sox...and I think they have one of the best records in the league. Yeah...and on top of that...they're only a half game out w/ Robinson Cano and Dotel coming back on the roster...they will be much better than they are now.

Guys, let's not start a yankee-lovers vs yankee-haters war. A lot of people love the yankees because they the yankees is the most succesful franchise in the history of baseball, and they are, there is no doubt about that. Or because they live in New York, the biggest city in the country. But also there is a lot of people that hate the Yankees either because they are from Boston, or because they think that the only reason for yankees' success is that they have more money than any other franchise, so they can buy stars and pay them very fat salaries, which is also true.

Well said, dima1109.

Just can't overlook that 3 game sweep of the White Sox....it was pretty impressive. And Mo has 400 career saves. Wow.

Well, in baseball, it's not who you play, it's when you play them. Teams get hot, and teams struggle.
Rivera's 400 SV and 4th place on all-time save list is nothing short of spectacular, i really want him to beat Trevor Hoffman. By the way, for me, the biggest Mariano's save was a blown save, and it occured on November 4, 2001 :D

my favorite article about the yankees :-)

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/life_of_reilly/news/1999/10/26/life_of_reilly/

You guys also have to realize baseball is a business. Some teams...you guys know which ones...just don't care about winning. They just care about getting George's money for their Christmas parties. If teams care about winning, they will spend money. You guys can't knock the Yankees. They aren't doing anything that the smaller market teams can't do. If you say that the smaller market teams don't have money, you are crazy. They can either use the money they receive from luxury taxes or they can follow the Oaklands of the world. It's possible to win with a low payroll, but winning with a high payroll isn't against the rules.

Nobody actually said half of what you are blaming on us. Small market teams can win, proven. Look at this link: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5476130
Marlins, World Champions 2003, have by far the smallest payroll of them all. Diamondbacks, Indians, Rockies, Reds, A's - the teams that definetely can win, are at the bottom of the list. Even Cardinals and Tigers, each is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best, team in its league, are in the middle, and Angels and Cubs, two teams that are definetely having hard time winning this season, especially Cubs, are near the top of the list.
Baseball is just like any sport. The fact that they get paid to do what they do only adds some bitterness to the attitude the general public has towards them, but the bottom line is, every team is trying to win because they have to keep some spotlight on them at least in their home city.
PS Yeah, and this "reason" from the article mentioned above made me smile:

The Yankees are the only team that doesn't sew its players' names onto any of its unis.
What about Red Sox? Giants? Dodgers?

Are you trying to tell me every single team is trying to win? You got to be kidding me. Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Pittsburgh...just to name a few teams....tell me they are trying their hardest to win. You have to be kidding me!

neither me nor you have been in the clubhouse of an MLB team for the duration of a season, so i guess we cannot really tell, don't you think? ;)

I was talking on more of a ownership level rather than a playing level. Of course, we know that all the rookies in Kansas City, Tampa, and Pittsburgh are all trying to play their butts off. Why? It's because they want to get traded. Some examples: Jason Schmidt, Carlos Beltran, Johnny Damon, Jermaine Dye...

Schmidt did a great job in Pitts. & got traded to the Giants...and came close to winning a World Series. Beltran got traded to the Astros...which was alright...but he signed a big contract with the Mets. Look where he is now. Dye got traded to the White Sox and he won a World Series.

The players are trying, alright. They want to be noticed. I'm pretty sure they want to get the heck out of these cities and go to another team that has potential...even if it means waiting for a few years. The teams they've played with probably never had potential. I think it's almost the same thing with the managers and perhaps even the general managers.

I'm more or less bashing the owners. Look where the Dallas Mavs were before Mark Cuban took over. Look what great ownership has done for a team. Rumor has it Cuban wants to buy the Pirates. If he buys the team, that would be great...the sport would become more competitive b/c an owner like Cuban will spend money.

Oh, ok, i guess there was a little misunderstanding. I meant the players of course. Young players are definetely playing to impress better teams, unless they play for Boston or New York. But i dont really think that other players want to win and play like it just because they get paid enough. There's a reason they call it a "game", you know. Everybody plays, everybody wants to win, but to a different degree - some want it more, some want it less.

I think those teams are seriously need some trade. Those rookie players are inexperienced and they will only get better after a few years. They can depend on those guys to win.

this was at yesterday's dodgers-dbacks game:
The first inning was filled with antics as Dodgers manager Grady Little went out to argue with third-base umpire Angel Hernandez, who signaled that Chad Tracy's bat did not cross home plate on a check swing. After Little returned to the dugout, first-base coach Mariano Duncan was ejected by Hernandez, then raced out to third to argue with the umpire. Duncan threw his hat at Hernandez, who then handed it to a kid in the stands.
that was absolutely hilarious. i've never seen abything like that before.

lol that was pretty funny.
"He's got to try to find a way to bring that cap back or pay for it," Duncan said. "Because I don't think any equipment of the Los Angeles Dodgers belongs to him."
pay my ass, i'd sell it on ebay. dont throw the equipment at the mlb officials and you'll be fine

So how 'bout those Braves!!!? They have won 6 games in a row! And they have won 5 games in a row with 10 or more runs scored, the first time a team has done that since the 1930 Yankees! And right now they are destroying the Cards 13-1, who had won 7 in a row before ATL came to town...I knew they had a chance to get the wildcard...but forget that, they are going to catch the mets and win their 15th division title in a row, one of the greatest baseball dynasties of all time!
