Let's talk chances...

Is it beneficial to apply ED?

yes

According to the Common Data Set for the Fall 2009 entering class, the ED admission rate was over 50 percent - 508 admitted out of 958 who applied. That’s a considerable advantage. The overall admission rate that year was just under 33 percent - 4058 admitted out of 12,109 who applied. Maybe W & M admissions could update us for the current year?

The Fall 2010 showed similar admission rates for both early decision and regular decision.

If a student knows that W&M is their top choice and is ready to commit to W&M as of November 1 and is okay to forego comparing scholarship/financial aid packages from other institutions, applying ED can provide the student with great benefits. In terms of application review, our ED pool is about 1,000 students compared to a pool of 12,500 students overall. It’s far easier to stand out in a pool of 1,000 instead of a pool of 12,500. Also, applying ED is the only way to demonstrate that W&M is your top choice and it benefits an institution to enroll students who are super excited about attending that school. Plus, you could complete your college search in December if admitted which makes for a less stressful second semester.
