Let's Talk Jerome Fisher

I’ve been looking into the program and I think I’ll apply ED. My question is: If you do not get into M&T in the ED phase, do you receive a decision regarding your second choice right away? Or do you not find out until the regular phase? If you receive a decision right away is that binding?

Thanks

"binding" could you clarify?? Are you meaning to ask if the decision is binding w/ regard to Program or to Penn as an institution?

Well obviously an ED acceptance to the M&T would be binding. But my question is what happens to my application if I don't get into M&T early. Will I get a response in December saying I got into my second-choice program, or will I have to wait for regular decision results? If I get the second choice decision in December, is tha tdecision also binding like the initial ED to M&T?

Ex.
I apply to M&T early:
1. I do not get into M&T
2. I get into SEAS

does 2 happen when early decisions come in or in April?

If you look at the application (form 1-C) there is a space for you to sign (Q. 6) that says:

"As an Early Decision candidate, we will first consider your application to the joint or accelerated program. If we are unable to admit you to the joint or accelerated program, and you would also like to be considered as an Early Decision candidate to your designated single-degree option, please sign below. The offer of admission is binding. Please acknowledge that you have read this and agree to enroll at Penn under the Early Decision program, if admitted."

So, you can SIGN and choose to be considered for your single choice during the ED round, in which case the decision you get in December will be binding if you are admitted.

Or, if you only want M&T you can NOT SIGN by Q6 and choose to be considered again for M&T in the RD round if you are deferred and they want to consider you again for M&T.
