I would like to hear from anybody who knows anything about Smeal including information on job placement, internships, and how the classes are for any major. Thanks a lot.

I've been accepted to Smeal and I would also love to know some information mentioned above. Thanks.

Me too, I got in Smeal as well

I want to major in actuarial science and be an actuary

You won't get started on your b-school classes (except MIS or Business seminar) until sophomore year. Most intro level classes are gonna be packed, but when you take upper level courses, there will be fewer and fewer kids in your classes.

As for job placement - keep a good GPA (3.5 or over) and make full use of career center resources and you should have no problem finding an internship/job

I see, thanks MightyNick. But are there lots of big recruiters?

The Big 4 recruit there. That's about as big as it gets. Haven't seen companies like GS, McKinsey, Credit Suisse, UBS, etc recruit on campus.

Friend's daughter just graduated and she''ll be working for Towers Perrin (consulting). Had interviews with Vanguard and Merrill Lynch among others. She had an internship with ML. No, she is not in the honors college.
They do get J&J and other pharmaceutical companies to come out. The Career Services center is highly rated by students (check out the BW ratings online). Also PSU was ranked in the top ten (six I think) by recruiters...that says something. Having all those alumni around can help too, especially if you're in NY, NJ or PA.
Other friend is at Price Waterhouse after getting his degree in accounting a couple of years ago. Works REAL long hours this time of year!
Penn State is not a target for the top investment banks and consulting houses. Wharton, Stanford, Ivys are. Also, UVA, UNC, UMich business students to a certain degree. A few get through in place like PSU (they do have grads at GS for example) but these are REALLY exceptional students. It's tough out there for IB...

When you say IB, do u mean international business?

No. Investment Banking. Like Morgan Stanley, Goldman, etc.

I do know of a few students that have been recruited by Goldman, UBS, Merril Lynch, JPMorgan, etc... They were obviously exceptional students (3.7+ GPAs and leadership positions) but it is possible even at a state school like PSU.

How about internship in Goldman, UBS, Merril Lynch, and JPMorgan? Is this possible at PSU's Smeal?
