Let's think of ideas for new AP courses.

My friend and I were discussing AP classes that we wanted to see in the future. He said that he wishes there was an AP Music History. I think that a solid number of kids would take that. The problem with new AP courses is that there has to be a great enough demand for them. Only 5,000 kids took AP Computer Science AB in 2008, and that was cut recently. I definitely think that AP Music History would get at least 10,000 exam takers.

Another idea he had was AP Asian History. This would encompass the Near East, the Middle East, and the Far East, of course. My friend loves studying Southwest Asia and would take that class in a heartbeat. However, I don't know if this would break the 10k mark.

I was thinking that an AP Web Programming course would be a good addition. It could test students on their knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript. I think it would be as, if not more, practical and widespread than AP Computer Science.

Of course, there's been a movement for AP Multivariable Calculus, so let's try to stay away from mentioning that one. I think it's been overdone on CC. Let's hear your ideas!

AP Physical Education

What would be on an AP PE test? Proper stretches? The rules of baseball? (x

Yep

It would show colleges your ability to be flexible

The problem with music history is a similar AP exam was offered once before and was discontinued in 1991. (AP Music listening and Literature). I would love to see an AP Anatomy and Phys. course so they could remove that from the AP Bio syllabus.

I was thinking about AP Anatomy, but I think the FRQs would be nothing more than a fact regurgitation. And it’s a pretty crucial part of AP Bio, too.

The labs for AP Anatomy would be interesting. Biomechanics and whatnot.

Every school has anatomy and physiology through dull enrollment practically.

basketball33 - dual enrollment is really not a feasible option for most students. I’ve done it before, and it’s really annoying to balance an AP workload with a night class.

I personally want AP Sleep!!!

but more practically, I like the AP web programming idea

AP Multivariable Calculus

@sohaib: he specifically said don’t mention that, b/c I was the one who started that thread, and it seems that it’s a bad idea

Stimulus - it’s not even that it’s a bad idea (I have no opinion on it), it’s just that the topic has already been done. I want some fresh ideas. :D

How about AP African History? I’m sure with the large African-american population in the united states, and #of people with white guilt, the class would easily exceed 50,000 test takers. I would ace that exam, but you all would horribly fail.

/joke

Most schools don’t offer any courses in this subject, but AP Sociology would be really cool.

AP Philosophy?

AP creative writing?

AP business?

AP Health…

Sorry, AP Hindi

AP Baking
AP Basic Foods (how contradictory)

AP Anatomy and Physiology would be a great idea.

Get AP Italian back, and AP BSing…though I suppose that’s what many AP’s already are.
