So I was deferred ED from Columbia and spent the past few months since then improving my application. However, I only sent a letter to Columbia detailing my recent accomplishments this past week because I wanted to wait for my spring sports season to start. 4 questions:

Was the letter sent too late for it to have an impact on my admission?

In the letter, I mentioned a scholarship I received from another university I applied to (didn't mention any names) as an academic achievement, though I stressed that no matter the scholarship, Columbia is still my number 1 choice. Was this okay to do?

I sent the letter to "ugrad-ask@columbia.edu". I know that that address gets bogged down with tons of e-mails everyday, but I couldn't find another address to send it to or any mention of whom I should update on my accomplishments in the deferral letter. Was there someone else I should have sent it to, and if so, would it be smart to send it again to that person?

I attached a photograph of myself in the e-mail because I didn't utilize the part of the application that asked for one. Was that okay?

I wouldn’t stress too much since what’s done can’t be undone, but personally, I would say that only the scholarship mentioning is over the top. That seems to me to be a little “Look, other schools love me!” However, the rest is legit as far as I can see.

Alright now I’m starting to freak out about the picture I sent. In my e-mail I included academic and athletic accomplishments, but I also mentioned social changes that have happened as a result of my deferral, including reconnecting with old friends that have drifted away during high school and making new ones by being more outgoing, etc. My picture is of me and a female friend, but I’m starting to wonder if I should have sent a class picture instead. Opinions?

In my opinion, a senior photo or something like that wouldn’t really show your personality as much as an informal one, like the one it sounds like you sent.

In all honesty, I don’t really think the photos make much of a difference anyway, so long as you didn’t send a picture in which you’re doing something illegal, which you obviously wouldn’t have anyway. Don’t sweat it.
