Ok so I got a letter from a Vanderbilt admissions counselor telling me to keep in touch with him if I have any questions. He gave me his direct email and line and this was after I requested info and had asked questions before. For a school like Vanderbilt or Emory is it really important to stay in close contact with the admissions people? Is it a big difference maker if you're an average or below average applicant?

Thanks!

i would stay in touch, it can't hurt

YES. Southern schools like for you to stay in touch. They like to see you send a thank you letter after you take a tour, etc. I'd make up some questions to ask him, it can't hurt:).

thanks! I sent an email to him today and I probably going to stay in close contact with them now.

Having an admissions officer know that you're more than somebody who just applied for kicks is always a plus. They can and will be an advocate for you in the adcom structure.
