Did anyone else who was accepted to the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts receive another letter today from the art deans? The basic message was explaining that it's a professional art/design school, that they hope you'll join their community, etc. I was just wondering if this was sent to everyone or just to those (like us) who haven't RSVPed to the Art Visit weekend invite or committed to attending Wash U yet.

I don't think we got one (daughter RSVPed to the Art Visit weekend invite and committed to attending Wash U)

My d received one. She has reservations to attend the Art weekend, so I assume she is considered RSVPed.

My s received a very similar letter from the Architecture deans at Sam Fox. He wasn't invited to Art weekend, but he's going to WashU this coming weekend to interview for the Fitzgibbon scholarship, for which he is very grateful. Are you parents going with your kids to Art weekend? Are there activities planned for the parents?

We are not going to art weekend - my d is going alone. Financially it is just not feasible. also, 2 other kids at home.....I hope there are other kids there without parents !!

I think the majority of kids are there without their parents.

There are activities planned for parents, but it is my opinion that it's best if the kid goes alone... The kid will get a better feeling about the school. If parents are around, they won't be able to bond with as many kids, or have the freedom to spend the time as they wish.

I think, at this point, the child should choose his or her own best fit... assuming finances can be worked out, and the parents don't disapprove of a school (but am also assuming the school wouldn't have been on the list if this was the case.)

For the parent, s/he will get a chance to visit at drop-off day(s) and on Parent's Weekend freshman fall, and that is great! The kids really want you there at those times, and it's a far better spend of time (and airfare, etc...)
