I thought so too!
:(

Alhough I like the personal note with the acceptance letter.
:)

You can negotiate right? I’m sure you’ll get more. :)

Hope so… right now they expect me to pay double of what I said I could…

Are you going to negotiate now or when you’ve heard from all your schools?

They say appeals for more aid should come as soon as possible, so I guess today…

Ah, okay. Good luck! And congratulations again!

I got my acceptance letter today! (Live in MD)

Congratulations! Are you considering going there?

I got my name with the personalized letter, i think it’s pretty legit

I got the letter last week…and then my acceptance package today :)

all of those who received acceptances recently, were you ED IIers, or regulars?

Me too, I got my acceptance letter today^_^ And I love the personal note they sent me:)

I was regular. And I loved the personal note too!

Hi everyone!

I think that letter might have actually been a likely letter because I got my acceptance package today!

I applied RD but they picked me to be an Alumni Memorial Scholar.

The acceptance letter had a handwritten message and it was definately personalized because it referred to specific things about me, so the note from the previous letter could be personalized.

I’m so excited!

when did you who were admitted already submit your application?

I think these acceptances are those for the Alumni Memorial Scholars. These are the top 200 applicants. I recollect that these acceptances are sent earlier than the usual regular decision applicants so take heart: the larger acceptance pool will follow along the lines of the dates Colgate publishes (mid March?)

Colgate was one of many schools S applied to (mostly top LACs in NY, NE), but S found out a couple of weeks ago that he’d been admitted ED II to his first-choice school, so he wrote to Colgate and the others to inform them and to withdraw his application. S received the letter with the machine-generated “personal” note from Colgate, which apparently crossed in the mail with his withdrawal letter. Then, yesterday, he received a very nice letter from the Dean of Admission acknowledging his withdrawal and wishing him well. It included a handwritten note from the Dean that read: " Have four great years at [ED II school], [S’s name]!" Now that’s a terrific, classy touch! As a response to a letter of withdrawal and at this incredibly busy time of year.

Alumni Memorial Scholars

Each year, Colgate honors its top 200 accepted students as Alumni Memorial Scholars. This recognition is the highest honor within the admission process, and an indication of an excellent match, both academically and personally, with Colgate.

Alumni Memorial Scholars (AMS) show great potential for intellectual and community leadership. The AMS program is designed to nurture that potential, reward achievement, and provide unique opportunities that capitalize on Colgate’s strengths as a community of learners and leaders.

Beyond this recognition in the admission process, there are many benefits for Alumni Memorial Scholars throughout the four years and beyond. AMS events and the Alumni Memorial Scholars Fellowship Program offer numerous opportunities for furthering one’s own intellectual growth within a supportive community.

Selection as an Alumni Memorial Scholar by the admission staff is based on exceptional academic performance, demonstrated talents and contributions to one’s community, and the respect a student has earned from both teachers and counselors. Though not a merit scholarship, the award does recognize academic merit and achievement combined with leadership and accomplishment in top candidates regardless of financial aid status. Students are selected without a separate application or nomination.

Students who apply to Colgate through regular decision are notified of the award by letter in late February, while students who apply to Colgate through Early Decision I receive notification in mid-December. Early Decision II applicants are notified of AMS recognition within four weeks of receipt of all admission materials.

Financial aid for Alumni Memorial Scholars, consistent with Colgate’s financial aid philosophy, is provided solely on the basis of demonstrated need. All other benefits listed above extend to all admitted scholars regardless of financial need

The rest of the decisions come later in March

I’m new here but I just wanted to say that I was accepted as an Alumni Memorial Scholar and was wondering if anyone else was too. I found out on Wednesday. Am totally stoked. Lol.
