Letter from ILR School at Cornell- How does Cornell determine mailing lists, etc?

My S, now a senior, received a letter from the Director of Admissions at the ILR School at Cornell one week ago. While Darmouth has been an identified reach for both he and his twin sister, S has now begun a serious interest in Cornell. The Schools at Cornell for both D and S have a lot of interests based upon potential majors and careers.

While I can post both kids' stats later, my question to CC'er's on this board is does anyone have knowledge of how wide a net Cornell casts for prospective students in it's schools? If it were not an Ivy, the letter would not be as surprising- my son is the range of SAT scores-albiet on the lower end of those kids who gain admission. Just wondering what insight anyone can offer before we go hurtling down this road when we are trying to narrow an already large list of schools to apply to.

Thanks a million.

pretty sure it's from PSAT scores. there's a box where you check off if you want your scores sent to schools. I guess the schools then receive the scores and then send letters. I would think your location matters as well since Georgia isn't exactly up there in terms of state representation.

I got the letter too. Wonder if they send it out to target students or is it just an overall mailing list/pool?

a ton of ppl get letters. I get random stuff from random schools every day.

yeah, i got them too -- but they just mass mail it to thousands of kids. Nothing special at all

If ur S and D r interested they should definitely check it out. Since it was a long drive up to Cornell for me I went to the local info session and it was great. ILR is an amazing major (so far it's even more interesting then I hoped!). The time and money taken to apply are definitely worth the chance of coming to Cornell...without a doubt!
