Hey! Did anyone else who applied to Cornell this year recently receive a letter from the coordinator of multicultural recruitment, offering support in the application process? I believe another letter had been sent out in November, encouraging National Achievement scholars to apply.
I know this doesn't mean anything, but I am just curious if the organization sends these letters to all minority applicants? Thank you!

I ended up getting it as well! I’m Hispanic.

I got an email from them back in the fall about help with the application, I’m Hispanic. Also, when I emailed them with questions about the programs the coordinator actually emailed me back a really thorough response, hopefully that’s a good thing!

Two other people got it in my school…so. I’m not sure.

Son got one too - we are hispanic as well.

Bump – Any Verdict?

The laudable support from the MC office at Cornell shouldn’t be construed to indicate your chances. Obviously, you’re in a targeted group – and it’s in their best interest that you submit the best possible app package – but they don’t know what you’ll eventually bring to the table – your likelihood of being admitted or not. Best of luck though.

@T26E4 , how would you construe a letter about financial aid? Not an award letter just detailing financial aid

My opinion is that it’s targeted marketing – to put out the college’s facts about Fin Aid to bust myths of “Oh Ivies – too expensive for me” vs. the realities of need-based Fin Aid that’s available at many so-called “expensive” schools.

This would be after the application is submitted, so the MCR office is not necessarily offering application process support, but helping with financial aid etc.
