Letter of Assurance and Nominations

Yesterday I got my LOA, and I was wondering if there’s a good chance I’ll get a nomination? I already applied for them and stuff, but I’m nervous that I’m so close to getting am appointment. I didn’t know if y’all had ever heard of someone with a LOA getting denied a nomination? Thanks!

Congratulations on the LOA, Southern. My son recieved his three years ago, 10/19, on his birthday!

Of course, there are plenty of reasons why they might rescind your LOA: receiving an F in a major (or depending, a minor subject), arrest, etc. So, keep up the good work, including your athletics, and stay out of trouble.

I do believe that some MOCs do look fondly on that LOA. Of course, they want to know that their nominee will get in ! Take a copy of it with you to your MOC interview or mail it to them to place in your file (probably a better option).

You might want to check out [United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com) for info specifically related to our nation’s service academies.

Good Luck!

Is your son a cadet there now?
And thanks for the tips! I already emailed them, but my two senators have already begun going over the applications. My congressman’s office said
they’ve known for two weeks though. And I’m not planning on flunking or getting in trouble anytime soon, not
with the rest of my life on the line haha. thanks so much!

With an LOA, getting nomination should be easier. I got mine in the mail 3 years and 9 days ago. It does depend on your area, but for me, I didn’t even do an interview, I just wrote a letter to my representative and she called me to tell me I had a nomination a week later. I am at the academy now (as is fencersmother’s son, we have many classes together). Less than 2 years till I graduate!!

I also endorse sending a copy of your LOA to your respective MOC. Ours ended up with two nominations, and will graduating this May.

USAFA10s, I sure hope so! I figure my area is a bit more competitive since I’m in the metro-Atlanta area, but I’m praying for it. How do you like it there? I’ve read horror stories about BCT, but I hear after the first year it gets better? And good luck with the rest of your time at USAFA! maybe you’ll be one of the upper classmen yelling in my face haha.

I might be, we shall see. I am probably a bit of an anomaly, but I love it here. Basic was a little rough, but nothing too bad and it was an enlightening experience for me. Overall I was more bored than anything else during basic. Freshman year was tough, and not particularly fun, but after that it is a lot better. 3 degree year is tough because of academics, but I am loving life this year (as much as I can with all the work I have to do)
