BC is by far and away my first choice, so I’m writing a LOCI since I was defered EA. My brother is an alumni (donates frequently) is it worth mentioning again in the letter? Kind of grasping at straws, so I’m looking for anything that may help my app.
Will mentioning that I have a alumni relation hurt me in any way?
BC only considers parents as alumnis not siblings. If u put mentioned it earlier, i cant see it having an impact next time around not to mention it sounds overeager
BC is not a school where legacy helps much at all.
you could craft the letter something to the effect, what you have to offer the BC community is a good fit bcos you have spent time on campus with your brother (if true) and know the Jesuit philosophy…
Keep in mind, demonstrated interest does not come into play whatsoever in our admission decisions. Submitting a letter of continued interest would never hurt an applicant, but it also does not improve your chances. The mid-year report is all we ask from deferred students.

@DevlinHall208 Thanks for the information! Are additional letters of recommendation also allowed to be sent with the mid year report?
@ocomea15 They are allowed (technically, anything is ALLOWED to be sent in addition to the mid-year report), but they are not specifically requested. We remind all students to think if what is being sent will add significant value or if it is merely repeating information we already have.
@DevlinHall208
hi. Does BC take into account your major of interest in the admissions process? For instance does it hurt my chances to pick biology since its one of the most popular majors? And vice versa what about choosing an obscure major.
@AsapSnow Intended major is not taken into account whatsoever, as we are firm believers that the vast majority of students will change their major from what they originally declared.
@DevlinHall208 Hi,due to inclement weather in my area, my school has had to continuously push back the end of second quarter. Because of this, my mid year reports aren’t yet available for me to send to BC. I’ve told my guidance counselor to send them as soon as my grades are available, but because of the horrible weather I’m not sure when that will be. Has BC started reviewing applications again? Is there a way to ensure that my application won’t be reviewed any less if my mid year reports come in late? Thank you!
@ocomea15 We will not re-review any deferred candidates until we receive mid-year reports. This tends to happen at the end of February, giving all schools plenty of time to send them.

@DevlinHall208 I am in the same boat as ocomea15, but I am a rd applicant, not deferred. Will admissions also start reviewing applications until midyear report is sent or is that only for deferred students
@AsapSnow We have to begin reviewing Regular Decision applications before mid-year reports come; if we waited, no applications would be read until almost Feb. 1, and there’s no way anyone would receive decisions by April 1. And that isn’t an option!
What we will do is circle back for Regular Decision students and make sure to update every file with mid-year grades and confirm or adjust our initial review accordingly.
Does BC notify school counselors that you need the mid-year report or must the student inform the counselor to submit it? Is it submitted through the Common App?
@daveverdo- To my knowledge, students need to request from their counselor to send mid-year reports to the schools they were deferred at. Also, the reports are not sent through the Common App but rather sent electronically from the school itself. I hope that helps!
My daughter needed to submit a midyear report for another school where she was deferred. Her guidance counselor uploaded it to the Common App and then she sent the school an email to notify them that it was there. I’m not sure, though, if different schools do things differently.
My son’s school uploaded them on the Common App. You can check if it was done by logging in to your Common App account, go to “My Colleges”, then “Recommenders and FERPA”. In the section under Counselor, it shows the progress of the school reports and the dates uploaded or downloaded. If it says downloaded, it means the college has it. If you don’t see anything at all listed after Mid Year Report, never hurts to go to your guidance counselor to make sure it gets sent. Some schools will do it automatically, some want you to request it.
@DevlinHall208 when is BC predicting decision letters to come out?
@bchopeful03 Too early to give a specific date. We remain committed for students to be notified no later than April 1.
Hey is the Boston agora application status not working for anyone else as well?
