Letter of Explanation

I’ve gotten straight As during both freshman and junior year, and I’m hoping for something as bueno this year. Anyway, I had a grade dip soph year and I was wondering if I need to write a letter of explanation.
I missed nearly a month of school (28 days) during the winter and came back right before midterms, which was not helpful. I get terrible migraines, the kind where i can’t stand up. Which is why i missed so much school. I got really depressed because I thought I was going to have to live with intense pain for my entire life and didnt work as hard as i could have in school. Now, I’m on medication that prevents me from getting migraines as frequently and as horribly.
So, back to my question, do i need to write a letter of explanation?

I had the flu for 2 weeks and came back right b4 midterms. the other absent days are from migraines and the majority of them happened around that 2 week period. Just to clear that up...

if your GC could add it to his/her report, it would be stronger....

I agree with bluebayou. If you are seriously concerned about your grade dip, have your GC write a letter of explanation, telling why you missed so much school. If you write your own letter, you may appear desperate. A GC's words will work stronger.
