I just received an email stating that it's likely I'll be admitted into Columbia as long as my mid year report is okay. I received all As and one high B for both marking periods, does that mean I'll be getting in?

I got one of those as well. I was really surprised; I didn’t even realize schools did this for non-athletes. I’m excited about it but at the same time I don’t want to start telling everyone just in case I’m not accepted in the end (knock on wood.) :/

I don’t really understand why they do this. Wouldn’t it just be getting your hopes up if they end up rejecting you? And does it really increase a school’s standing in the minds of its applicants? I mean, if it’s not your top choice by now, surely a “most likely” letter won’t change anything?

I got one too… I thought I had like < 1% chance of getting in, seeing how I’m an international student. This hyped me up until I asked myself, why would they accept me? My marks aren’t great, I’ve never started anything extracurricularly… like musiqal said, it’d be so cruel if we end up getting rejected. Mmm midyear report… it wasn’t as good as my first report, a bit lower. T_T

it totally confused me too and i didn’t want to go around saying that i got in just in case. i mean, my mid-year report is pretty much around the same as my previous ones…

I’ve heard that it’s extremely rare (unless you completely destroy your GPA 2nd semester senior year) for those who receive likely-letters to get rejected/waitlisted come april 1st. I think you guys should feel pretty good about getting those.
