Hi. I have a question re letter of rec. Should the letter of recommendation from professor include WHY I'm transferring? My reason is an academic one; the East Asian Studies program at my current school is not good. I'm going to write an essay on this as well. Let's say I told my professors that i want to do East Asian Studies and they mention in in their letters. However, as I write my essay and do more research, I change my mind to do IR, with East Asian Studies as my minor (or something like it). It might be nothing, but it certainly doesn't look good. So, i think i'm going to ask them not to mention WHY TRANSFER, if possible and if they agree. Is this going to be okay?? I think academic recommendation is to measure my academic abilities only, not to state the reason for transfer?? THANKS~~

Just a caveat:

Make sure you don't make it look like the East Asian department at your current college is not good. Rather, address wanting more course selection, etc...

Academic recommendations can, and sometimes do, touch on the applicants reasons for transfer. If it reinforces your application, I'd hope the recommender would mention it.
