Letter of Rec NOT from teacher

I am already having 2 rec letters from my teachers and 1 letter from my counselor. I want to send in an additional rec letter from the volunteer center that I was really involved in. How does that procedure work? Do the "non-teacher" fill out the teacher form and I invite them on common app etc? Or do they only need to write an essay about me because they are not my teachers and thus don't need to fill out teacher forms etc. Please answer, thanks!

Give him/her the common app teacher rec form with your info filled out, and have them mail it to the colleges you want. You can’t register them online as common app only allows you to select the required teachers.

ask the school if theyll accept it though, some will just completely ignore it since its not what they asked for

immortalix, I looked at the common app teacher rec and there are all these things about “courses you taught this student” and other teacher related stuff. How would my recommender fill the form out?

and thanks cowking, I checked the school’s website and the additional recs are okay.

Why don’t you simply upload it under “additionnal information” in the writing section ?

I am also very curious about this procedure. Does anyone have anymore info about this?

I was told by an Admissions officer to just mail in the letter to the Admissions office. Just make sure your name is on the letter. It needs to be mailed in directly as the only ones done online are the ones from the teachers and counselors.
