I applied RD and I recently received a letter from Emory thanking me for my interest in theater at Emory and detailing all of Emory's theater opportunities. I think I may have only put theater as a second major (that was the extent of interest that I expressed). Did anyone receive a similar letter who expressed interest in theater? Did anyone receive a letter about other programs that you may have expressed interest in? I wonder if they are strongly considering me and trying to sway me. If anyone knows anything about this it would be appreciated.

i received this kind of letter for both the dance program as well as for the french program...i think it's just an informational kind of thing...in case you have questions or anything like that.

Yes, I think it's standard. My son listed bio with an interest in pre-med and he got a similar letter.

It is probably something standard, but if a student responds to it with a lot of demonstrated interest, I am sure that it is a plus to his or her application. I realized they probably didn't even read my app yet since they just finished their early decision IIs.

Yeah I got the same kind of letter... I didnt really demonstrate any interest in theatre but had a "film club" on the resume so maybe that was why... I don' think it will sway your application either way

No, it won't. My son received letters from Spanish dept., Director of Athetics, basketball coach - not a recruit but would want to play. In his "Why Emory" essay he mentioned these letters and that he met the Dean of Admissions - who e-mailed my husband thanking us for visiting and offered any support. He expressed how this stood out re: this university and what stood out to him while visiting campus. The essay was very personal, as all of his esays were. Applying ED II I am sure helped. With good grades, ACT, recs. and making himself human, unique - he wanted this school and expressed it. Good luck!
