Letter of recommendation from a retired teacher...

So basically, I was kinda stupid and since no one told me otherwise, I was under the impression that I wasn’t really supposed to start asking for letters of recommendation from teachers until my senior year…so now.
My APUSH teacher, from when I was a sophomore, really, REALLY liked me (always got A’s in his class, 5 on the AP test, went to every single review session) and I kept in contact with him during junior year. Near the end of the year, he told me that he was retiring but if I ever needed a letter of recommendation, to let him know. Now that the school year has just started, I’d like a letter of recommendation from him, but I don’t really know how to get in contact with him. I still have his school email address, though I don’t know if that’d still work or not.

So 2 questions here: since he was a teacher my sophomore year, is he still a decent pick? and 2, how do I contact him? Thanks!

Many schools prefer junior/senior teachers. Sophomore year was a while ago.

Ask in the guidance office. He may very well have left an email address for kids like you.

Try to find him in the telephone directory, Facebook, or on Google. Also, see if your school office still has his contact info. Just ask him.

One of my daughter’s recommendations was from a sophomore teacher who had left the school already but they had kept in touch. You might ask the department head of the subject that teacher was in and see if they have contact information if you don’t find the person by searching online.
