So I need some help deciding whether or not I should include my ultimate frisbee coach's letter of recommendation on my application to Vanderbilt.

The thing is: I've only known him for about a little more than two years, and only about half that he was my coach (the team kicked him off- I was one of the only ones that didn't want him to leave- and I'm pretty sure he acknowledged that in the letter).

He's already written the letter, so it's just a matter of whether or not I include it with my application.

For my "other" recommenders, I have my band director (known all four years of high school), and this, if I choose to send it.

Thoughts? Opinions?
(Pretty sure he references my personal qualities like caring, personable, etc, as well as leadership on the team)

I would say yes to the band director, but no to the frisbee coach–it just seems kind of gimmicky to me, haha. Especially if he was removed from the school and has only known you for a few years. Really, I’d say no on this one.

An extra letter of recommendation should only be from someone who can REALLY add another facet to your application, such as a varsity coach, band director, research mentor, etc. Remember: “the thicker the file, the thicker the applicant”. And I’m sure you’ll have a lot of other great things on your application without having to include another reference for admissions officers to read through.
