So, I know which teachers to ask for my main letters of recommendation, and I'm sure they'll write me favorable letters. However, more than my academics, I'd like to emphasize my interest in visual art and social justice/gender studies in my applications (I plan to double major). I know I want to ask an art teacher for a supplemental recommendation.

I've had the same art teacher every year in high school, and I know she thinks highly of me, but she doesn't quite get my art, and she's lazy when it comes to writing, so her letter would be short and poorly written (she's written one for me before, so I know). I've done The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Early College Program the past two summers, and I feel like I've learned more from my teachers there than I have from my high school teacher. I'd like to ask my most recent teacher from ECP for a letter of recommendation--the problem is, I only had her for 2 weeks (admittedly, we were in the studio from 9 am to 4 pm everyday of those two weeks), and I know colleges want teachers to know the students they write letters for really well.

Also, for the past year I've been one of three leaders at my school's Gay Straight Alliance. Should I have our staff adviser write another supplemental letter, or is that overkill?

Thanks!
