Hi,

I'm currently a sophomore at a junior college was wondering how the letter of recommendation works. When I was in high school my guidance counselor sent out the letters to all the schools I applied to. Does my professor have to send it to each college I want to go to? The reason I ask is because certain school deadline is in February and other in March. If somebody could explain how it works that would be great.

Recs can still be sent by snail mail, but more commonly they are submitted electronically. If your schools use common app, you will create an account and invite your prof through that account online to provide a rec. He or she will then create his own recommender account and fill out the evaluation form online, just once. Once you invite your prof, you can assign that rec to all your schools. Recs are not generally customized for individual schools, unless you are applying to just one.
