Letter of Recommendation

Hey guys

I'm a sophmore undergraduate student right now and I plan on transferring to other schools like University of South California.
I have a question about the "Academic Evaluation" as requiered on the Common App.
Who is allowed to write one???
Can anyone write this "Academic Evaluation" or Letter of Recommendation or does it have to be an instructor at my school?
I have little or no relationships with any of my professors or academic advisers in my school
I plan on having my old PRIVATE tutor/college adviser write one for me.
Is that allowed?
Is it frowned upon?
What are my options?

Thanks!!

You’re in a pickle. The fact is they want someone who can objectively compare you with other students, can comment on your classroom presence and academic potential. Are you sure there’s no one?

A tutor has a much more biased relationship with you (indeed, may be paid by you) and will be read in that light.

Hey, thanks for responding so quickly
That is a really good point.
The funny part is that the only teachers I see fit (who have actually acknowledged my presence) to write my letter of recommendation teach classes not involving academic classes.
i.e my Chinese teacher, Karate teacher.
I’m afraid they won’t write as good of a letter of recommendation as say an English/Writing Professor
All of my academic core classes (English, Calculus) are so big I never really got to connect with my professors on a 1 to 1 level.

I don’t think anyone that you pay privately will be taken seriously as a recommendation. I think it needs to be an instructor at your school.

Tutors definitely don’t fall under “Academic Evaluation”… Maybe “Other Recommenders”.

I thought Foreign Language was considered an academic core class, I had two friends ask their Spanish teacher to write their recommendations and that was acceptable. You may want to look into it further, but I’m just saying, you may want to consider having your Chinese teacher write your rec and not your tutor.
